Tuning question

First question is about shift points for an auto...let's say I make max power at 4k. So its progressively making power until 4k where it peaks. so from 4k to redline would it continue to make max power or would the amount being made decrease steadily from 4k to redline? The reason I ask is I currently have it set to shift at 5300, where the car redlines, but i want to know if setting the shiftpoint to 6k or so would help in making more or holding more power.

Secondly the canned tune that came with thw tuner has a "performance" tune for 91 octane. I know the 91 octane by itself wont do much for power, but i should be able to advance my timing safely since im running 91 instead of 87. The question is how many degrees can i safely advance the timing to. make a couple more

The performance tune that the tuner came with would already have the timing advanced for the octane of fuel the tune is for.
And as far as I know, you make peak horsepower somewhere near the redline, and the peak torque i around 4k. So from 4k, your hp numbers increase until about redline. My shift point is set at 6k and it actually shifts at about 5500. But generally increasing your redline doesn't give you more power, unless you have a cam that moved your power band up.

I think you'll be best served by dynoing the car. Then you'll know exactly how your power curve looks with the mods you have, and can set the shift points appropriately.

Dynod yesterday...the tq peaked a little before 3.25k, dropped then peaked again at a lirtle after 3.75k. Then it held somewhat steady and started falling at 4.5k. the hp hit its highest at like 5k and starts falling a little after the 5.25k mark...

Oh and if that tune advances the timing what's it mean when it gives you the spark 0-2000, 2000-4000 etc options where you can add or subract values(+1, +2 or -1, -2...)

It means you can play with the item you bought, however at the risk of your engine.

Post the dynograph.

Sounds to me like you need to set the shift point somewhere between 5k and 5250, depending on where that puts you right after you shift. You want to come into the next gear around your peak torque, so shoot for the shift dropping you to ~3750.

I dont have a scanner so ill have to try snapping a pic and posting it tonight once I get home. I have it set at 5300 now but ill have to get on it and see where it falls when it shifts. Also, ESG-642T, I know I can play with with the value...what I meant was what does it mean.

That was another way for me to say, don't mess with it.
