motor opinions
So im planning on building a new engine for the stang. I was wondering what opinions you guys have on which route would be better to go. building the 3.8 to a 4.2 or using the 4.2 out of the f150? Plans include the usual: p&p heads and intakes. New pistons, rods, springs, cam. This motor is going to be boosted with the m112 and possible get a 75 or 100 shot on top of that.

I'd say just build the one you have. It would be nice to have one to just put in though, so you can drive the car while you're building your new engine. It'll probably be more expensive to use a f150 4.2 just cause you'll have to buy it.

Well the car is my dd, so I have to build one on the side. My dad just bought an engine stand. So either way I have to buy a new block

Would like to....but it would be easier for me to have a built 6er, and not have to deal with having to get a new transmission, wiring harness, gauge cluster, ect...

To be honest I'm not even sure it'll make any difference whether you start with the 4.2 because you're replacing all the internals anyway. The only benefit would be having the 4.2 crank in it, depending on the price between the 3.8 block and the 4.2 block. If the difference is more than what you're going to pay for the crank, them there you go.

I just built the 3.8L to a 4.2L and no complaints here.
