auto or manual

me and a few of my buddies are rockin the automatic tranny in our stangs, and many are doubtful on if an auto can ever be fast or not. people keep tellin us to toss out the auto and throw in the 5 speed. i was just wondering what everyone thought about the auto and its speed capabilities..thanks

get the shift points firmed, redline moved to 6250 and speed limiter taken off with the sct xcal 2. then you will be much better off

that is true, but autos for average drivers are more consistent. i would prefer a 5 speed personally, but an auto isnt all that bad

In the hands of an experienced driver, a 5sp car will always be faster (more efficient), but for the vast majority of people you can make an auto faster and more consistant than you ever could with a stick. Shift kit, higher stall converter, tuning the shift points, etc. will help dramatically.

Personally though, I'm a 5sp guy for life.

I hear the powerglides used in a lot of high powered cars are nice.

BUT 5 speeds are better if you can shift. Don't worry though, automatic isn't a swear word. You can do just fine with your auto!!!!

I have a 5speed and also an Auto stang.
I love driving the 5spd more than anything.
But the Auto owns in stop and go traffic..........................

ultimately it comes down to personal preference... and what your overall goals are with your car.

Funny thing about all this talk about trannies...............
I blew out my direct clutch in my AODE and lost 3rd and 4th. But I have a 4r70w out of a 94 supercoupe as a replacement.

personally i like manual, but auto can be more convinient and consistent

also, when buying a used car buying manual usually makes more sense because alot of used cars have trans issues and manual transmissions tend to be cheaper to fix rather than an auto which you will usually have to completely replace if there is something wrong with it

also it usually makes the car around $1k cheaper to buy

i actually blown up 2 autos and one of them sent shrapnel into the car so i`m a little bias
toward the 5 speed so far they held up good to much abuse

Auto or manual

yes autos can be faster if you have the time and money for the shift kit and the XCAL but, personally I couldnt be happier with my manual. ( Until i save up the money to get a short throw stick :wink )

yea i agree but still an auto will never be more fun to drive then a stick. i dont care if its notas great in the snow or not as easy in stop and go traffic but even then it doesnt bother me, i love my 5spd! any car i get in the future is going to be a stick as well and both cars i have now are 5spds. manual ftw!

Well, of course not. However a(an) auto with a shifter can be fun also. No Clutch FtW!
