'99 cruise control stopped working

The cruise control on my '99 V6 stopped working a few weeks ago, and I'm still at a loss as to what could be up. A few google searches have had me check if the horn still works since the electronic switches in the steering wheel can die, and it still works just fine. All fuses have been checked and are fine. Brake/tail lights are working just fine. I'm kind of running out of ideas -- I doubt the module itself can just randomly break one day. I will say that I used it A TON for about a month before it stopped working, so if there's any wearable parts I'm unaware of then they may need to be replaced. Is anyone familiar with the 99's cruise system that has any ideas?

Thanks in advance. I've browsed around on here ever since buying the car, but this is my first post

The only wearable part I can think of would be the cable attached to the throttle body. I doubt it's the problem but it might be worth checking.

I have a V6 2001 with CC. Mine works fine, but every once in a while the buttons seem not to respond. I have to press them with pretty good forct to get a response (be it ON/OFF, Accelerate/decelerate, Resume). After a good push it works fine. Perhaps they just 'stick' sometimes. Try that, press very hard.

Or else, there MUST be some sort of silinoid or mechanical mechanism that 'drives' when using the CC. Whatever it is the cable is attached to for CC must use a mechanical motor somewhere. I mean you can feel the gas peddle go in/out when the CC is on, so something is moving it. I would think that is the only moving electrical part of the system. Find it and see if it is working OK. Just do a cont. check on it.

Or, for a first shot at it, just spray some WD40 on the cable/spring mechanism, see if it loosens things up?

I too am curious about the outcome of this!

You might check the adjustment if any of the brake light switch.

You don't have an air bag light on do you? If so it's likely the air bag sliding contact.

Other than that I think you will need to have a dealer or auto electric shop check it out.

i dont know a lot about the cruisecontrol on our cars but i would check and see if the cable is too loose(or tight) or see if the cable is cut... might be the problem but im not sure

I have the same problem with my 03 GT. And all the same symptoms as yours. Everything works but the CC

I'm going to check the cable with a friend of mine later on today, so we'll see where that goes. I looked at it myself and it does seem to have a bit more slack then I'd imagine is normal, but everything looks connected. I will say that NOTHING happens when I try to enable it -- it never grabs my gas pedal at all. Air bag light is off.

it could cuse CC not to work...the CC has its own cable linked to the TB. if that was busted or loose/mis-connected it could affect CC.

Bump! Sorry I haven't said much for awhile. Anyway, the cord itself looks fine. I haven't messed with it much in the last couple of weeks since it's been cold and snowy enough out that I haven't had a reason to miss it, but I really want to try and figure this out before spring. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem with my CC a while back, but mine was simply a fuse that had gone out...double check to make sure you didn't by chance miss one somehow, you never know. Otherwise i think your best bet would be to get it checked out professionally.

Check the cruise control actuator motor. That might be the problem. Or it could be a wiring issue as well.

In another forum found this:

"today while driving I kept hitting the button to activate and nothing, dead as a doornail, than I thought I just put in a brand new clutch cable and clutch kit, so I thought maybe theirs a sensor on the clutch pedal?!?!?!?! SO I put my foot under the clutch pedal while driving and pulled back 1/8" back towards me while driving and sure enough when I hit the on plus set accelerator button it WORKED LIKE A CHARM, So im under the impression I need to move my clutch pedal back 1/8" towards me so the sensor has contact or I need to adjust my clutch cable a slight bit more???? NEED TO CALL MY INSTALL GUY TO SEE WHAT HE SAYS, it seems like a easy fix since its working with slight back pressure on the pedal which in theory is pushing the top of the clutch pedal towards the engine bay which means their has to be a sensor somewhere up their."

...honestly, my manual didn't even list a fuse for the cruise control. Do you happen to know which one it was on your '01? Was it under the hood? I'm fairly certain that I checked all of them multiple times, but I'd love to think that I missed something that simple.
