Auto Transmission Sound Question
Im hearing a clicking sound when my automatic switchs gears at WOT. It only happens when Ive got the pedal to the floor. It s a fast clicking. It sounds like its comming from the transmission. The shfting seems normal in itself but the clicking makes me uneasy. This Mustang is an 04 with 30,000 miles now. Should I be concerned???

is it like right before it shifts and builds up to the shift then stops or does it click once at the shift?

yes, I clicks very rapidly up to the shift and then stops. It will then repeat the same fast paced clicking before the next shift. But it only happens when Im the pedals to the floor.
If I drive at normal speed, no clicking at all. |

I cant tell you for sure because I sometimes turn it off to drive it hard ( by the way , do you think that can hurt anything?) ... but I will say yes that it is turned off. Also, thanks for the imput. I dont know anyone with a car like mine and its nice to get some advice from someone with experience. Seriously, thanks.

no it won't hurt it o/d is a gas saver better to turn it off for performance driving. I was asking to know if it does it if it is on and when it is off?

I just came back from driving it. I didnt hear it when the o/d is off. Only when it was on. Its a bit harder to hear now because of the exhaust I just put on it.

that is weird on an 04 you shouldn't have any problems really with the tranny. if it was the torque converter it would do it all the time not just at WOT. are you sure it is from the tranny?

No. Im not real good with cars. Just enough to make me dangerous with a Chiltons. My best judgement tells me its comming from the tranny becuase it stops after the shift. The torque converter can click like that?

ok this is going to sound crazy. It sounds like a baseball card in the spokes of a bike. ( if you ever did that as a kid). Its very fast paced for a short duration before the shift. It seems to engage fine... maybe a bit slower than I would like but it doesnt slip or anything. The only other strange thing that happens is that sometimes when I take off from a stop and put the pedal to the floor, the tires squeel and it revs real high and then pauses for what seems like forever (probably about 1 second) and then ends up way high in second gear. I just figured that was a "quirk" of the car though.

Thanks for trying. I know its strange. Its just such a nice car I hate to let something minor go that could be damaging and expensive later. From what you've said, this is probably not a "normal" thing Im hearing. I will take your advice and let a shop check it out.
