H, X or Y

So im going to be getting dual exhuasts soon and most likely getting an exhuast shop to do the work. My question is which is the best to get and is it worth it for the money. Stick with a Y pipe or go H or X. Ive been hearing X is more import like and H is more muscle with not much a proformance differnce from each other, but a big step from the Y pipe. Im looking for proformance, loudness and deepness all be considered.

So should I: 1. Get the Y pipe, 2. Get an H pipe, 3. Get an X pipe, 4. Have the shop fab one of these?

Cheapest route is to have shop fab one up. However many shops will not fab or install o/r midpipes, meaning without cats. So either find one that will, or you'll have to purchase one of your choice elsewhere. NO NO NO on the Y pipe, you'll def. want to replace it. From here it's really a matter of personal taste. As you have obviously seen elsewhere, h-pipes are more rumbly, "muscle" sound, while the x tends to get raspy on these cars in mid to high rpm range. Personally I am getting a MAC Prochamber ... best of both worlds. I would search Youtube, and here, for exhaust vids. You can get a rough idea of what some set-ups sound like from that. Hearing them in person is worlds different, so try to find some local modded sixxers. Also keep in mind that mufflers have as much to do with the sound as the midpipe. You'll hear Flowmaster 40 series and Thrush Welds. The battle over those 2 choices is yet to be won. For the rest of the piping, as well as tips, the cheapest (price wise, not necessarily quality) is having a shop just fab that up. And don't forget your long tube headers, which will require a mid pipe made for long tubes. You can find these for sale or again the shop would just fab one.

if you have emissions then you will need a catted h or x pipe, with the h recommended.

and goren420 you know the Prochamber will not bolt up to a v6 exhaust right? you will have to have it custom fabbed

having a shop fab up a kit will, more times than not, be cheaper than buying a pre-made kit

I know I read somewhere that x pipes were better for higher rpms because they even out the exhaust flow better at the higher rpms then an h pipe, which makes sense in theory, so I've been planning on going with something with an x pipe...any additional thoughts on this anyone?

truthfully, our sixxers do not need midpipes. our engines are even firing so there is no point to even out the flow, since it is even to begin with. x-pipes may do that with v8's and the x is usually favored on the v8 side of the house.

as for our sixxers that is not true and it will add a raspy sound to our already rapsy sounding exhaust, especially in the upper rpms

so basicly speaking i will not see much of a PRFORMANCE bonus from a h or x pipe and will just get a different sound? So shouldnt i just stick with a Y pipe or devorced duals

Correct on the first part. Midpipes do nothing in terms of performance on our cars due to the firing order. Stick with divorced duals, a y-pipe will be a bottleneck in terms of flow.

agreed, ^ You will not really gain any performance from your exhasut, it may feel a little increase in response, but it is mostly for sound. The best sound on our sixers is to run either divorced duals, or an h pipe. I would compare prices, and call a couple exhaust shops and ask for a quote. As far as sounds you like for mufflers, type in v6 mustang exhaust on google video or youtube and listen to the different setups, since it is your car and your opinion.

since it looks divorced duals or an h pipe are the best, it looks as tho exhuast might be cheaper then I first though. Im going to go scope out devroced duals since it might be cheaper and better =]. Think an exhuast shop can do devorced duals after the cats with 2.5 pipes fairly easy and inexspensive? Of corse im going to need sparklyass tips!

Depending on the place you go to, yes, it should be relatively cheap. Include the price of mufflers and your tips and you'll be much lower then a bolt on kit from online, no need to spend 700 dollars on something you can get custom fabbed... in my opinion at least.
