Wheel question
Have a completely stock 2000 V6.
I'm tired of staring at the ugly gap between the tire and wheel wall. What size rims and tires should I look into to help fill up the space without giving me a bumpy ride. |

well you are going to need more than wheels to fill that gap up. I would not recommend any rim over 18 in diamter. I personally like the 17s because they are not too big. If you are wanting to help reduce that gap, you should consider buying some lowering springs for your car.

I think 17's are too damn small. 18's, 19's, and with the right wheel even a 19/20 stagger can look amazing.

How will that affect handling and ride quality though?

i have 17's right now and want to go larger. i want some 19's but cant really find the style i want in 19's so ill upgrade to 18's some time and put a good bit of rubber on em.. that way i can lower it just a little bit and get rid of a good bit of the space and not have my car too low

I have 17s right now and plan on going with 18 or 19s because I can't lower my car due to the huge bumps where I live. I'd rather have LTs than lowered so I'm just going for bigger wheels until I move.

For lowering, look into springs +new shocks/struts+ Caster camber plates. Even on stock wheels, its a much better look

The elevation in Florida is obviously low, but I don't want to go into a lowering kit because of the terrain around my area, full of bumps gravel pits etc.

18's with a 1.5" drop will have you sitting really nice

I'll have to scan pics...old school disposable camera, but when I had 17" Cobra's the wheel gap was probably worse than stock. Getting bigger wheels isn't going to eliminate well gap. You need lowering springs. If you don't want to go too low, get the Ford Racing Springs or something similar that offers about an inch drop, that will help tons with the gap, but won't drop you too low that you'll be hating it with the pot holes and such.
...where in Tampa are you?

I'm actually in Land O Lakes, but I drive between here and Clearwater 3 to 4 times a week, but in Lutz and Tampa a lot of the roads are being redone.
With a 1' drop have any of you experienced a lot of problems with speed bumps etc? I had a truck before this vehicle so I've never noticed how much of a burden it is driving so low. I've started shopping for rims on Craigslist, what bolt pattern am I going after?

Yeah Tampa/Hillsbourough county has been working on the roads for over 20 years, and will continue into the next 20 no question. And SLOWWWWWWW with it.
1" drop is not much, if you're worried about bumps that's what I would do, you shouldn't have any issues. And that way you could probably avoid having to swap other components such as caster/camber plates and tie rod ends (bumpsteer Kit). You want 5x114.3, 24mm offset.
