IAC Removal Issues
I've had idle problems since I bought my car and I've gotten so sick of it I don't care that it's cold, it's time to fix it. I want to start out by cleaning the IAC so I don't have to take the CAI apart for the MAF and TB jut yet. But today I tried to take the IAC off and that bitch is on there good. The screwdriver I was using was a bit long and I couldn't get to the screws very well so I gave up and went out to get a shorter screwdriver. Got a nice little one and went at it again but the screws won't budge. Any ideas on how to get them out? (possibly without taking the TB off and showing that bastard who's boss lol)

![]() You sure you're removing the IAC? It should be held on by bolts... edit: After rereading your post, you definitely aren't removing the IAC. It sounds like you're trying to remove the TPS. Last edited by mooses; January 16th, 2010 at 01:13 AM. |

Well fuck my IAC. Went out this morning to clean her and came up with this:
![]() She's still securely on there. I don't have time right now to dismantle the upper intake just to get the IAC off so it'll have to stay like that. And if I'm taking the upper intake off, I might as well get something better right? Gives me a good reason to order a Windstar upper intake

Yeah that one came out fine. I put it back in so I'm not worried out it gettin itself loose and falling off when I got to work this afternoon. I didn't want to get rough it with earlier but if I have to I will lol
Edit: I was looking at a pic of an IAC and I got to thinking.. If I take out the bottom bolt, disconnect the electrical connector, and spin the IAC around, do you think it would come off of what's left of the bolt? Then simply take a pair or pliers and twist the rest of the bolt out? Last edited by mcqueen; January 16th, 2010 at 03:12 PM. |

spray into what is left of bolt with your favorite type rust eater, penetrating spray, or hot wax. hopefully a broken bolt removal tool can be used to get the rest out. only ones i have used though so far require you drill the center to get a bite on the remaining bolt. hope some one else has better tool or idea for you. good luck!

recalibrating tps is not always necessary but is recommended for optimum tune.

I think it's a 6 mm thread. You can get the length from the other bolt. Many hardware stores have a good assortment of metric bolts.
If some of the old bolt is still sticking out you might be able to remove it with vice grips or a small pipe wrench. If it needs to be drilled out, I would take the upper intake manifold off. Just use the appropriate drill size for the tap. |

Alright guys I went to Menards today and picked up a new bolt. Got home, popped the hood and took the bottom bolt out. Played with the little bastard for a few minutes and it came loose. Under it I found the gasket in 2 pieces and plenty of bolt to grab onto. Vice grips helped me get it loose enough that I could just twist it out with my fingers, clean the IAC, put it back on with the new bolt and no gasket. I need to go to AutoZone or something tomorrow and get a new one but for the time being the car is idling pretty well. Sits nicely at 750-800rpm except one instance when it just hung at 1100rpm. Still got a MAF and TB to clean when I get more time though and I'll give the IAC another good cleaning when I put the new gasket on.
