Status Update:

G-Faleen - You mentioned that the pricing they gave was ludicrous, and I agree completely. I called the guy and asked him to break it down a bit and give me some brand names and here is what I came up with.

The short throw shifter - 300
A brute force clutch? - 1,000
A full engine tune - 250

The labor/install is included in the price, from what I read here it seems that a decent clutch doesn't cost more than 400 bucks. I'm going to go ahead and look up this brute force brand. What do you guys think?

do not pay a grand for a clutch that is insane. get a king cobra from
www.americanmuscle.com and your set for a good bit of power.

Wow, only 300 for a topline clutch on that site. So I guess 1,000 for parts and clutch install/labor is way overboard...

Well then, being as I'm at 190 stock, spending 2,500 to go to 200 doesn't seem worth it at all. Does a CAI truly add any HP at all, because I have one on it now, but it's been so long that I can't remember what it was like driving it prior to putting it on. Personally, I'd like to turbo or super charge it, but that might be a little too much engine work, and the labor costs, let alone the part itself, is probably above my range.
AB said 200rwhp stock you have depending on the year, but im assuming 99-04, you have about 150-160rwhp. the 190hp you quoted is what the engine itself makes not what is actually put to the wheels. so in actuality you are getting around 50hp from all the bolt ons.
yes. which is a lot for bolt ons.

So 1,000 dollars for a full clutch install, parts and labor is way too much for a mechanic to charge?

He also made mention of sending the drive train, or maybe the fly wheel out to a metal shop to have it smoothed out. I'm just not sure if I should trust this mechanic.

Though he clarified the price a little better, he said the 2,100 dollar quote included MSD wiring with the engine tune.

re

Just talked to my mechanic. So check this out and tell me what you think.

1,860 for all of the stuff I mentioned, minus the MSD ignition coils.

So full engine tune with new wiring, (claims he will use good wires)
a New Borg and Beck Brute Force clutch
a B&M Short Throw shifter with adjustable positive stops
A full throttle body cleaning

Parts and labor, 1860.

He said if I went with my own short throw he would take 300 off the price, so I suppose I could just snag one of those nice ones off of americanmuscle.com
