rear wing question

Im just full of trivial garbage tonight, but to me, its interesting. Whats a good spoiler to add to an 04 V-6? is there one that creates more downforce than others? Are most for looks or are they functional? Would good tires make more of a difference at 85 mph?

I will speak upon the Cobra R wing....at 110mph with the windows down music playing loud on the way to the beach....you hardly notice your going that fast....100mph with no wing then you feel the car even with the windows up....I realized this after going out to the track last week.......the wing is horrible when drag racing....but on long bends and in and out of traffic....your planted

True that's why the evo and sti have such big spoilers they are functional and wings do make a difference under 125mph basically any thing over 50mph you can tell a difference with a wing on or off and it's not a small difference...

if it was 50 all cars would have them 100 might be closer but your not getting enough downforce to really matter till about 95-100

Find a wing that isn't functional because I belive there all functional and they do make handling better at 50mph I watched a topgear eposoide where they were testing the EVO(I belive) and they were talking about how its downforce plays a roll in its low speed handling

well if you wing touches heaven you get more downforce over a low wing like mine.

really if you think about it, if you're moving 20mph with a spoiler your still have improved handling over a car with out one check this site out answers(dot) com/topic/spoiler-automotive I don't know where you got over 100mph and what not.

heres a quote form that site "In nearly all cases, drag increases as the speed of the vehicle increases. Thus, some spoilers that are effective at very low speeds often generate excessive drag at high speeds, and spoilers that work well at high speeds are often ineffective while moving slowly."

at 20 mph spoilers aren't making much down force. The point of a spoiler is to keep the car on the ground thats why f1 cars will have their spoilers break off and they will start to fly. So a spoiler isn't really useful until you have risk of your car lifting and losing traction. Why it is called downforce it keeps the car down

No, read the site I put up it tells you all the reasons to have a spoiler its not just for that purpose...

I know but that was why spoilers were invented keeping the car on the ground at high speeds in turns

the wing also weighs a lot more then the 01-04 stock wing...which helps put the back down regardless....as for turns at high speeds you do feel a difference...and for straight line you feel the difference when flooring wingless at 65mph...now if you have a beast of a car it prolly wouldnt matter to much or the wing would break off...that why they have slight lips like the 03/04 Cobras......and saleens have the long ones out back much like some drag cars with the aluminium outwards lips...the Cobra R funcitons well for turns...but creats to much drag going straight but does keep the car planted and prevents shaking a lot....I would not recommend using it at the track....which I found out this by taking it off last week...helps a lot once ur hitting up in the 80s without a wing...I had bad traction as always and trapped a slow time of 15.9 at 90.84mph no posi traction kills but i tried flooring is with new tires still didnt work so i had to baby it again but that was the result.....

Our cars weigh a lot...20 mph a wing won't do much for us. Yes, once the car is moving there is drag, because air is being moved, but to be honest, it will not affect handling until high speeds, when it is necessary.

true they do weigh alot but you would def tell a difference with or with out a spoiler on a 60mph freeway, but thats with the stock spoiler if you get a better aftermaket one you will tell a difference at even lower speeds.

At those speeds there isn't a lot of drag so the differences would be minimal, and unnoticable. Also the wings we have are functional at high speeds, but not as functional as say the cobra r...they do more than just looks, but they don't do as much as something other than stock. You won't notice the difference at 60 between one with and one without. I know. I've driven both. This is from an experience standpoint.

I have also driven one with out a spoiler and it feels much different then having one on.

I know are spoilers are functional I was talking about you can buy aftermarket ones that produce more drag then the stock ones.
