Gear Install Cost
I've been emailing shops around my area for quotes on installing gears + tlok. I just got a quote back saying $428.46 for the install which includes shop supplies, gear oil, and tax. This is how it was literally worded:
I'm hoping they're including the differential install in that price. Does that sound about right? |

Seems a tad high to me as well. I mean the oil is maybe $25 total, tax is roughly that amount as well... so you're looking at $375ish for the install? In what is probably gonna be 2 or 3 hours... seems high. Keep shopping.

Tad high. I am having a guy rebuild my Tlock with the 4700-c kit and install a 3.73 gear along with the 4210-c kit while it is all out for 300. I have only spent 325 on parts so far. I still have to pick up Friction Mod fluid and 75w140 full syn but that's it.

Hmm, I think that 2-3 hours is a little low. I would say the book is going to say probably between 3.5 and 4.5 hours. According to my schools book it would be between 3.5 and 4.5 depending on if you are doing bearings also. You figure shop rate at 75 ish, times 4 which is in the middle is 300 and then you figure 50 for oil and tax. Then you got to figure in the shims which are 5-10. I mean it all depends on shop rate in your area. I got a quote for 1200 when i called on mine, the cheapest i recieved for a quote was 500. So i did mine myself, but i also have had some schooling on this. I think 428 is not to bad. You could call some other places and see what they charge.

Thanks for your input guys. I'm going to keep looking for another shop around here that will do the install but I'll keep this one in mind if I don't have any luck finding another for a decent price.
