Question

New member with questions ???

Hey all.. Im a new member here.. I recently got an 02 v6 mustang with CAI and a gt take off exhaust with flow 40s and i had a couple question.. Does anybody have any good idea of what kind of headers would get me the closest sound to a GT?? I know it will NEVER sound like one but i would like to get it similar to the sound of one.. And has anybody tried the duplicolor interior paint to paint the dash?? If so did you have any luck and could you post some pics?

I used the paint on mine and it turned out well. Just make sure you clear coat it when you're done. Zat will know more about that though.

If you're aiming for a deep powerful sound you'll want to go with MAC LT headers, and an O/r h pipe.

There is a bit of a tossup between mufflers but most will say 40's or thrush welds.

They're both good mufflers. I've personally got the flowmaster 40s and wouldn't mind having the thrush welds.

Well you already have the flow 40's which i think is what most would recommend for a deeper GT kind of sound. Long tubes are a win also...

As far as the paint, do some searching in the forums, there's a bunch of guys in here who have posted up interior paint jobs and you'll find more by looking yourself than waiting for them all to try and throw all of their pictures up again...

Besides that, welcome to MM

Ive been thinking long tubes but ive heard a lot about them not clearing and they will possibly drag the ground and a bunch of other crap.. Is that just a bunch of bull? Im not afraid to do some modding to my exhaust i can weld pretty good and ive done exhaust work in the past but nothing on a car this new.

It really depends on the areas you'll be driving. If there's a lot of speed bumps and pot holes, you MIGHT have issues if you don't slow down for the problem areas. If you lower the car along with LTs, you WILL have issues with clearance. If your area is mostly level then you'll be fine

Pacesetter and Mac are the only 2 companies I can find that make LTs for our cars. I can't even find the Pacesetters anymore but I'm sure they're still being made. They're a little cheaper than Macs I think and I wouldn't hesitate to buy them. Hell, if I ever decide to go LTs (can't because of my area and I want to lower my car) I plan on going with Pacesetters. Also, don't forget you'll either need to modify your midpipe because the LTs will literally be long or you'll need to get a "shorty" midpipe. I recommend an h-pipe as I've heard x-pipes sound really ricey on our cars since they're inline 6s. If you don't already have dual exhaust, LTs + h-pipe will have you almost set aside from mufflers and new tips.

Programmer, like a tuner? SCT is very popular around here. There's also Diablosport but that's not quite as popular. AmericanMuscle.com offers both and certain models (like the SCT SF3 I just ordered) offers free mail order tunes for life

Not a problem man, I love spreading any knowledge I can
If you ever want to get a custom dyno tune, check out the tuners around your area that you will have do the tune and find out what they use. If you buy DiabloSport and your tuner uses SCT, you'll either need to find someone else or buy an SCT tuner. Or visa versa. For the most part, I think those 2 brands are pretty similar, it just depends on what Mustang community you're a part of for which one they'll recommend. I think most people here recommend SCT. But definitely check with local tuners to see what they use before you buy one (it would be no fun to drop close to $400 on a tuner and have to spend that all over again for a different brand).

There are a few that have done interior painting. Probably the most known is Z's
Zatrekaz's Interior Blackout Project

I also have one but for some reason the pictures arent showing.
Interior Blackout

Just loaded the pics again so you can have some examples.

Thanks, ya I sprayed everything using the Duplicolor vinyl and fabric spray. I would highly suggest reading through mine and Z's pages because there is some good tech info that will help out and keep you from having to redo the work.

I rushed mine in areas and wished I hadnt because it did not turn out the best. I do like the blue but I am going to go back when it warms up and paint it a much darker navy blue so that it will blend more with the black.

Yeah the weather isn't so nice for painting here in Iowa either. I have an extra (5speed) shifter bezel that I want to practice painting on. Got it all prepped and ready to go, sprayed 2 coats of primer and it bubbled like crazy. I found out painting in 10degree weather is just no good

Yeah he painted it all. It was originally charcoal.

Almost anybody on here's who painted parts of their car will recommend adhesion promoter + primer + paint + clear (in that order). It seems like once they try it they fall in love

Have to agree its best to use adhesion promoter, paint, then clear. However, I did not. I only used the paint after washing and scrubbing everything. For the most part yes everything has held up well. The things that have not are the armrest, airbag cover and the door sills. Everything I tried on the armrest simply wouldnt work so I replaced it with a black one from a 94-98 mustang as well as the door sills. I kept scratching the sills with my boots when I was getting in and out and figured it would just be easier to replace. Be sure to use the right paint on the right pieces. For instance dont use vinyl paint on plastic trim because it will scratch off easily and that is where most of my problems came from.
