Dumb question on aftermarket Cai

So I went to replace my airfliter yesterday and I was unbolting the plate that is bolted into the side of the car between the airfilter and engine. The first top rubber one comes out easy as anything but I keep trying to undo the 2 at the bottom, I was going to take 1 off and loosen the other so I could turn it around and grab my airfilter. Is there a nut on the bottom of it? I would hate to have to go under my car and take off this nut n bolt to change my damn filter!

if you can put pressure on the big backing plate like your gonna pull it towards the battery it might create pressure to unscrew those bolts. i had that same problem once and it worked for me

well the bolt sit in a rubber grommet and i found if it does it again you can sometimes pull the whole unit up and out of the grommets all together. it didn't hurt anything but i just installed the screws with anti seize and not to tight.

Easiest under the car for mine, one person holding the bottom piece with a pair of pliers and someone up top to unbolt it.

Unless you're installing an air filter that's too big for the fender opening. If you can't get those screws undone simply remove the clamp on the MAF, remove the MAF and the connected part of the air inlet tube from the coupler, and just pull the filter out + the grommets out of their holes. There should be 2 metal pieces inserted into the grommets that the screws hold on to. Might be easier to get the screws out of those holders if you get the holders out of the grommets and get a good grip on them. The screws might not be stuck at all, the holders might just be spinning in the grommets.

yeah im gonna go apeshit on it, i was thinking about rigging my own cai with something like this (not the left part cuase its a ram air) and put a drop in filter with a headsheild. I would keep 1/2 my old cai and this would force more air in as well as make it easy to clean my filter

dose that sound like a good idea or waste of money

well i took off my black filter( guess the jackass who owned it b4 never cleaned it)It turned out the nuts on the other side were weird ass circle things that I could not get a hold of with vise grips or anything . I replaced the airfliter with bigass spectre air filter from autozone. I had to move my hand around in the fender and get it all cut up but with the help of a second set of hands moving the cai tube i got it in.
