need to turn better

hello. i have had my 99 v6 for a couple months now. i have had a lot of fun driving the car and plan on doing some autocross in the spring. i put on h&r ss springs and tokico blues the other week. the car feels better and a lot more predictable, but it doesnt have the turn in i want. i put a bigger back sway bar on it and it is a lot better, but you still have to be careful getting into a turn. once you get it started turning it feels pretty balanced, and the back will come around if you get on it, but if you try to just pull it into a turn from a straight or get through a transition fast, it plows. im going to look into a k member eventually, but until then i just want to make the car turn in quicker. i thought about trying extended ball joints, and i have cc plates on the way. could the alignment make a significant difference? has anybody had any luck with extended ball joints? it turned in ok stock, so i would think lowering it likely changed something that caused the push. this car is fun to drive, but not when it wont turn. any advice any body has is much appreciated.

do you get any wheel hop at all?

i would look into some lower control arms and subframe connectors. Not sure about upper control arms for handling. I know most drag racers don't mess with them.

I don't know if you were looking at the Steeda X2 balljoints, but I run those along with their bumpsteer kit. Same shocks/struts as you with Eibach prokit springs. She corners like a dream compared to stock.

Subframe connectors: Get a good WELD IN brand. Something well known. These increase your frame firmness and will give it that solid feel. You WILL notice it. Probably just as much as a rear sway bar as far as telling the difference.

Lower control arms. I have been told if you use cobras they will actually sharpen your turning ability. Something along those lines .... I forget.

Bumpsteer kit isnt really needed unless you are REALLY lowered. All it does it realign your front suspension to where it should be.

Cant think of anything else at the moment. Unless you want to get an 03/04 cobra IRS.

stangcharger, the only time i get much of any wheel hop is when i spin the tires from a stop, but thats not much of a concern for me. i will probably go with a torque arm setup later on, but i dont think i need that yet. goren, i was looking into the steeda x2 ball joints. i have a strong suspicion that is most of my problem. do you think they will cause any interference with my 15s? bump steer is not bad enough to bother me. im still on the fence about the subframe connectors, hear they make the car feel better, but havent seen much of anything definite. muscle mustangs and fast fords had a interesting article, see if the link works. Why Subframe Connectors Benefit Your Mustang - Subframe Connector - Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords Magazine

Full length sub frame connectors are a great mod, so long as you get a quality unit. To run the bumpsteer kit you NEED the x2 ball joints, but I think you can run the ball joints with the other components being stock. You ask a bout 15's...I'm guessing stock wheels, Shouldn't be a problem, although cornering has as much if not more to do with tires (and the right wheel to fit a good tire) as it does the suspension.

thanks goren, i will try the ball joints. hopefully they do sometning for me. i do still have stock wheels. i will get 17s and sticky tires later on as my budget allows. just figured i could work out some of the basics meantime. think il wait till i get a flat level floor to work with for i mess with subframe connectors, but they will be on the list. unfortunately i cant do anything at the moment. i got snow to deep to walk in and the weatherman says theres another foot or better on the way. starting to think i wont get to drive this thing till june.

Sucks, why I live in the Sunshine State, no winter tires, no winter storage, no beater to drive in the snow, winter just means cold air for the car to gurgle down.

Here to help anytime, keep the questions coming, and good luck with the mods!
