I seen the post about "Offical exhaust thread" but maybe its because i dont know much about cars but i got one question.

okay, heres my story.
I live in Ohio & I got a 2004 V6 Mustang (red) and I just got a GT bumper and now i'm needing dual exhaust. I called around and everyone keeps saying an H pipe is Illegal. I don't wanna go with an X pipe, I want an H, put how can they make this legal? I'm really just starting out on Cars, so i really dont know much of anything about them.

PS. Can someone PM me that knows alot about Exhaust. I got everything I want picked out but im wanting to make sure it will all work. befor i order.

Your best bet is to get something along the lines of this:

h pipes, or any mid pipe for that matter, are only illegal if they are considered "offroad," meaning that they do not have the two sets of catalytic converters, which are required to pass emissions in states that have emissions testing. While what HMUSN showed you in the post above is very good quality, you might want to try swinging by an exhaust shop and seeing how much they will charge to fabricate you an exhaust system. Most of the time what the shop will do is cut your y pipe and make it into an h pipe and then will run dual exhaust from there.

I was on youtube and seen this setup with Stock Shorty Headers, Custom made O/R H-Pipe, Flwomaster Original 40 series mufflers Magnaflow 18x4" SS Tips 2.5" Exhaust Piping.

I know i can get the flowmaster 40's on americanmuscle. could anyone send me links to where i could get the rest of this set up? I could search it on google but i would prolly end up getting the wrong things.

It seems this guy just bought the mufflers, and then took his car to an exhaust shop and had them make it for him. That's almost the exact same set-up i have, and i say that he probably took it to a shop because it's a custom made h-pipe, and he made no mention of any particular exhaust system. Seriously, just get the mufflers you want, and then take ur car to a shop and tell them what you want and they'll hook you right up...I did it and my exhaust only cost me $375 which i don't think is too bad.

o/r = offroad which means his h pipe has no cats and is illegal. Just buy the mufflers and get a shop to fab you the exhaust and buy some tips if you want. Tips really do nothing but make they look cool so brand dose not matter.

I think there is only 1 set of cats on a stock exhaust, and have the shop cut right after them. Lol they cut like a fraction of an inch after them for mine, did a great job. I could be wrong with the number of cats though

No an H pipe is not illegal in ohio, just like everybody else said. And I live in Ohio too. It's illegal anywhere in the country to not have cats. I would recommend an H pipe adapter and GT takeoffs. Not too loud, but loud enough when you get on it. And I'm about to delete my cats anyway, there's no emissions testing in Ohio, or at least not in Trumbull.

theres no emissions testing where i live either so im just gona cut my cats off or atleast the 2 bottom ones and get an H pipe with a similar setup as the above video.
