06 V6 Intake question

I am looking at cold air intakes for my 06 stang. I just got dual exhaust so i feel this would be a good thing. however i do not want to pay 200+ for one.

would it be bad to use the factory air tube and put a Good Cone filter on the end of the factory tube, or is there something special about the aftermarket plastic or aluminum tube? the stock tube looks bigger, and seems to be smooth inside for smooth flow?

Is this a bad Idea, or should I spend the extra 50 on a tube with the filter?

Some people just drop a K&N in...

Some people just want the look of having chrome or a K&N intake system

How much of a gain are you going to get?

Could be 1-2hp could be 5-7

umm the CAI is bigger and less turbulent for better air flow, but I would pay over 80 for one. You can just measure your stock tube and make your own with grommets, clamps, induction piping, and a filter all from autozone for like 45 bucks

Well I went to auto zone, and the stuid tube was 49.00 alone.
the filter was 49.00 that is over 100 right there. How do you do it for under 50?

Autozone by me has like a premade cut tube and yea it was like $40

They should have like a bin full of just different shaped tubes that you can just piece together youself. The filter should be the most expensive piece.

Not here. I went to pep boys and just the tube was 49. even the litle 90 degree elbow was 11 bucks. to creat one would be at least 100. im thinking of using my stock intake with a new filter for now, I mean I think the filter is the most important aspect ot a intake anyways.

correct me if I am wrong.

im pretty sure u cant do tht because if u ever have looked at ur stock intake, there is a sensor tht plugs into the tube...ur computer would definetly know somethings wrong and ud probably get check engine lights up the ass.

this is a GT but they do make kits for the V6......if u can make one urself similar to it minus the wind tray unless u can do that to....ive seen
the Intake test on Muscle Mustang and this worked better then C&L and Steeda.....the traditional style they have for the GT as opposed to this ram air style....also they didnt even need a SCT flash as the Steeda one did....it came with a special adapter to make the air flow bigger for the ram air then u needed a flash....again this was for the GT but if u can do something like this hardest part will be drilling a hole for the sensor

I would totally build my own of the HV intake, but I have no idea what filter they are using. I have looked all over the big filter companies, and no one makes one like that.

Does that come with a new MAF? or does that use the stock?

ALSO, when addinng a CAI, will my check engine light be one, or will it be fine with no warnings as long as I put the MAF on the tube after the filter?

Hey Ware not to discredit anyones post here, but our cars are set up to have air flow buy the MAF sensor. All the new kits have a spot to hook this up to it. Yes you will have to pay more than $100 sorry to say. The good news is for the most part they work thou. THe only one I can think of off the top of my head is the K&N that does not require a tune after you put the CAI on. There is a few others. But remember this when modding the S197 its new, its hot and the after market people know this and will charge you extra for this.

Well in theory, any CAI witha space to slide the MAF in will work without a tuner, correct.?

If I install the CAI and do not use a tuner right away, what will the cons be? will the check engine light come on or what?
