Question

Power Loss After Tune

I got a 93 oct tune from AM and finally filled up with 93 octane and loaded it yesterday. It was running great once I got the gear ratio set right. I got on it a few times and it felt nice but I've still got a metallic noise when I get on it which I've been told is most likely the lifter sticking (will Seafoam help this?). So I put the car away for the night and didn't take it out until this evening. When I pulled out of the parking lot the car just didn't want to go and even at WOT it took 30+ seconds to get to 3k RPMs and I was afraid to go into 4th (I'm sure it would have stalled). I kept on the gas hard (traffic was coming up behind me) and eventually the car broke loose, so to speak, and the car just took off. It bogged down eventually and now it's running alright (lifters are still sticking ). I can still feel it's not running as well as it was yesterday. Any ideas what could be causing this?

bogged down may be from the 87 octane still in your system, Its ushally best to fill up from an empty tank on 93 and run that till empty and then fill up again with 93 and use your tune. The metallic noise could be from advanced timing and the low grade gas still in your system. I forget the term for this but I remember my dad told me about it when I got my tuner to make sure it wasnt pining cuase its bad.Its best to return to stock and run this tank dry then fill up with 93 again cuase I beleive this can damage your engine. You should seafoam your car to remove alot of the carbon build up since I know your car has higher milage, but I dont think it will solve the problum.

I would call AM and talk to them

Yes it will be fine, people splash in 93 oct in there cars every once in awhile even when they run 87, it helps it a little. I was running 93 a good 2 weeks before my tuner just becuase I felt like it. But imo man Call AM and tell them about it and keep running 93 octane on the stock tune till empty. Then fill it up and give it another shot.

Thanks man. I'll return it to stock when I get home tonight and run it low before I full it up and put the tune back on. I just got my 93 economy tune today so I'll probably put that one when I tune it back for 93. Got a new fuel filter and spark plug wires on the way (new plugs already here) so I'm gonna get it all tuned up when it gets warmer. Can't wait to get this all straightened out so she runs like a champ.

speaking of tuners, if someone was selling one used would you all be hesitant to buy it or would you go ahead and buy it or buy a new one?

Depends on the price and how you're going to get your tunes. If you've got a company that you plan on going with to get your tunes, I'd consider the used one (make sure the owner has returned his car to stock so the tuner is unlocked). If you need nothing more than mail order tunes then I would spring for a new one from AM. I got my SCT SF3 from them and I get all the tunes I want for free and they cover most bolt ons (which will be enough for my car).

Unless h/c/i is in your near future, the AM free tunes are quite handy.
(H/C/I will require a custom tune which AM doesn't do)

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think they can still do mail order custom tunes, but you'll need to find a company (like Trick Tuners or such) to write the tune for you.

I'm thinking it's the cars.

1-877-841-1275. It'll direct you to an automated message, select 3 for info on tunes, and it'll connect you to an AM rep who will basically ask you some basic questions about your cars mods, what fuel you want to run on, etc and it'll take about 5 minutes. The bad part is having to wait a few days for the tune to get written and sent

Interesting.. I sent AM an email last night about what happened (not that I'm upset with them or anything) basically just asking if they'd heard of similar issues and what they thought the most likely cause was. I know they just opened for the day and I don't expect a response for a while, but I just got an email from them saying my order has shipped. I didn't order anything but the product being shipped is "1 Custom Tune for Handheld Tuner/Chip $0.00". I'm not sure what they shipped

A metallic sound at wot can be detonation. If the car is reving that slow, something is REALLY WRONG and you should get your foot out of it right away!
Detonation, also known as pinging, pinking, or knocking, is a serious motor destroying event. It sounds different on many cars but it can sound like slapping metal wires against the motor, a rattle in the dash, shaking popcorn kernels in a coffee can, and when it’s real bad it sounds like marbles in a coffee can. It has a rhythmic sound much like a diesel (technically its very similar to a diesel). When you hear detonation GET OFF THE GAS IMMEDIATELY!
Detonation Explained

Exatly what he said ^^^^

The lose of power can be detonation!!! It if sounds like marbles in a can or something along those lines it may be detonation!!!!

Did this sound happen before or after the tune?
Also does it make this noise when in park or neutral?
