Upgrading injectors and retuning
So I'm trying to get a few things out of the way now to make life easier once I finally get to installing my 10-11psi procharger. I got my new fuel pump in yesterday and now I'm thinking about swapping out injectors.
I know that when you swap injectors it needs to be retuned so my question is this: Will just changing the "Injector Size" on my SCT X3(using their canned tune) work for me? If so then I'm also wondering if I want to set it for 39lb or 42lb injectors. I bought as set of 03/04 cobra 39lb injectors but then have been reading that they actually flow more around 42-43lbs. |

Just wait until you install a procharger.

Why do you say wait?

I know a guy up in randallstown, MD selling some 42lbs injectors he had on his 01 GT that he had turbocharged. He blew a gasket in his engine so he parted some stuff out. If you need 42lbs injectors I can get in touch with him for you. I think he's parting with them for only $75.

I think I'm good on injectors, as it sits right now I have a set of 8 30lbs, 8 39lbs, 6 stock injectors plus two sets of wiring adapters.

The point of putting them in now is that I have the time and I may not later. I'm trying to avoid having to try to do exhaust, injectors, fuel pump, intercooler, and supercharger all at once.

Just changing the injector size in the tune will not be sufficient.

Good to know. That does make me wonder though, why do they have the option to change the injector size if it doesn't work correctly?

None if it's that hard, it's all just time consuming and shit happens, especially with used parts. I can already see scheduling this install around the one local dyno shop, nice weather and time off from college/work is going to be hard.
I'd like to have as much as possible installed and tested before I make a tuning appointment weeks in advance and end up having to miss it. I'm not asking whether or not you think I should install them first but rather if it's possible. I'd appreciate it if you would contribute actual knowledge instead of opinion as it really doesn't help. Last edited by mp4 player; February 20th, 2010 at 03:22 AM. |

If you want to pay to have somebody tune 42 lb injectors in a stock car then go right ahead. I don't know why you're asking if its possible if they a.) fit in the holes and b.) connect to the electrical connections then they will "work" right?

he is asking since the tuner has the preset adjustments for those injectors if he can put them in and hit a button. Right? i personally dont know but someone with the knowledge will chime in. Forget he is going to be tuning later and just look at the question asked.

I do not know, but I would think that you could just use the thing on the tuner. I would try googling it or waiting for someone on here. It does not make sense that they would not work if you tuned it like that, like you said, why else would they put that on the tuner?

The adjustments on the tuner are very rough... And the car will run pretty bad. Joe@tricktuners can can cook up a tune for it though.
