pricing of a stang
There's a 2004 40th anniversary v6 mustang being sold locally with 48000 by the owner. His asking price is $8500 though its negotiable. The paint on it is in pristine condition, and mechanically is in good condition most likely, haven't drove it or looked yet but will soon. Everything is stock, no aftermarket stuff.
On KBB its priced as about $6900 if its in good condition and sold by owner. If it were sold by a dealer it would be around the price he is selling it for $8500. When I go to look at it and drive it, what are the main things to look for? What do you guys think would be a reasonable offer if everything that is said being it excellent condition? Dunno about areasonable price but that sounds high. I got my 2001 vert with 23k on it over two years ago for 7k..

I'd try to get him to explain his reason for pricing it so high, then after driving it and looking at everything prob start around 6000$ just to see if he'll come down.

I'd get him down to about $6500. Assuming it is in as good of condition as you say. Just look it over carefully. And if it needs new brakes, has any dryrotted hoses, etc. Could just have a mechanic check it out too of it would make you feel better. Mine was is great condition too minus the bumper having a decent scratch and some old hoses/belt/brakes. And it had 38k and I got it for $6k.

I agree with 9986, just check the hoses, brakes, and look under for water damage, 6500$ would be a good price I always low ball a private owner that way when he negotiates it's closer to what I was willing to pay in the beginning

Very true. Not many cars are in excellent condition when you actually have them looked at. I think most excellent conditions cars are few and far between IMO.

And if they are, they're worth paying a little more than they're technically "worth" for. That is unless you plan on rebuilding the whole thing anyway haha

Yeah, there are a lot of EXCELLENT conditioned cars actually...they're called brand new ones when they roll into the showroom. Other than that you should NEVER pay anywhere near excellent price IMO, you have pics of this car available?

I have trouble uploading here too. I don't know how to resize and couldn't get photobucket to work for me either. But I can post on 3.8 just fine ( which is why I link over there frequently lol)
^ haha at least I'm not alone... |

I paid 4000 for my v6. The bumper and hoods had scratches on them, but I replaced with with 03 cobra parts.
So to me, that 8500 seems too high. For that price, you could get a nice GT Last edited by sudbury33; February 23rd, 2010 at 10:26 PM. |

hope it isnt like mine, looks good but is leaking trans fluid/rear main oil seal, and check engine light like crazy. Was going to cost me around $1000 to fix all and that is not including my transmission slipping in 3rd gear randomly. So I said its time. Though I should say with 135000 miles on mine, I still get compliments on the look but not how it runs ha. I hope I can get at least 3-4 grand on mine if lucky.
Imageshack - la4aea60407794c489740a7.jpg Imageshack - l6021fb901e464a19ad2833.jpg Basically I hope to sell mine after and make a little profit because i bought mine when it had 40k miles and spent $7500 on it not including my upgrades I put into it. |
