Mustang sun roof?? are they custom installed?easy?

Am i retarded or did i not know you can get a 1999-2004 with a sun roof. I was driving around today and parked next to a black mustang and noticed the roof..and it had a sunroof. Am i retarded and there are some that come like this?is it costum?if so easy? I was joking with my friend about doing it a while ago ha..

The only way to get a sunroof on a Mustang is to have an aftermarket one installed. I wouldn't call the install easy. I'd have a shop do it unless you don't mind water dripping in when it rains

Also, don't expect it to be cheap.

Yea they do look ugly, I saw one a long time ago. And just the other day I saw basicly a 3 stage one, it had 3 stages to it that streched across the entire roof, almost looked like solar panels but obviously not. I wouldn't expect it to be cheap and I am willing to bet some shops would refuse to do it because it would involve cutting your roof.

...it was on there when i bought it and apparently it was a dealer option in some places..or thats what the original owner said

I really doubt it was an option, if it was i think there would be many more out there with sunroofs. Ive seen one on a Mustang and it just looks out of place....To each their own though..

As far as it being done, it can be done. Ive seen a GP have one installed and it seemed to be a major PITA

+1 they dont look right on our cars, but whatever works i guess

Do what you want but on my fox that had a factory installed one all of the rubber around the screws that it mounts to has dry rotted and it leaks, and some other small places where the clips hold it in have small leaks :-(. I do like that I can remove the glass if I want, only takes 1-2 min. On a side note, when I was looking for a 60's model, I had some guy tell me that they were options back then. limited numbers of course. Didnt believe him, and all the research I'd done said no, but he said he was the original owner and bought it like that from ford...

I believe it was a possible dealer option for New Edges, I've seen way too many of them around here for them all to be one off custom jobs.

They are called 'Moon Roofs' not sun roofs and they are after market installed @ about $1800. And everywhere I take mine people comment on how it makes the car so I guess it's personal opinion on how they look. Where I live, Florida, they are very nice to have.
Only problem is getting someone to do the headliner right when they install it.
BTW: Ford is now offering Moon Windows on them as options. Essentially a moonroof that does not open.
