Question

94 mustang v6 needs new motor ? ? ? ? ?

My dad used to drive a 94' mustang v6 but said the tranny went bad. It sat at my grandpa's house for years so i decided since he is disabled and my step-mother and him only have one vehicle and can't afford another, I would get it running so he would have a car again. WELL. . . jumped it and the motor is bad as well as transmission. SO . . . I WAS WONDERING, what are my options of motors i can swap into it. I would prefer the cheapest possible solution, whether it is putting in another 3.8 v6 or a 302 or 351. Yet if its only a little more money it would be AWESOME to make it fast. WHAT CAN I DO? ? !

If you just want the car to have a car, just drop in another V6. You wanna keep it a V6 with a bit more kick? Find a junked V6 F150 [4.2L] or a TBird SC and swap motors.

Or go V8, but I wont touch that.

I agree. If you're on a budget, remember, Speed=Money.

The problem is where do i find one for cheap? Will other ford 3.8l engines go in it and run right with the exhaust and fit the motor mounts?

The salvage yard here sells ANY motor out of any vehicle for 250 bones. Check the local yards there, you may come across even a V8 for just about the same price.

Itll fit. Just remember to keep in mind that modular motors and pushrod motors require different k-members. So in saying that, all 3.8L's will fit, they were all pushrod up until 2004. Once you get into swapping for a V8, youll have to swap K-members if you decide to swap for a 1996+ V8, a modular motor.

Are you trying to fix this up for you or your grandpa? the cheapest way would probably be another 3.8 though...but if it's for you and you're in no need of the guy RIGHT NOW i'd save for the v8...

go to a junk yard and pull a tranny and motor from the same body style. You could probably get away with making it street worthy for under 800 bucks.

^This, especially if its for your Grandparents. Make sure you shop around and get the best deal you can find. You may also want to check out craigslist.

Youll need the wiring harness if its a modern 302. Which would probably cost more brand new than your car and everything else combined.

+1

your best bet is finding yourself a 3.8, but if you want to drop in a 302 then more power to you. If its an older model motor it shouldnt be too bad of a swap..Im not sure on what all you would need though...anyone else?

most likely all you would need is new motor mounts, transmission and mounts, and get new exhaust fabbed up...am i right?

I don't know about where you live, but in my state, that car wouldn't pass inspection because the model year never offered a 302 cabureted motor setup.
