3.8 Oil Filter Housing
I need a oil filter housing... the plug is stripped on the engine we got now and it is leaking oil at the plug... it got threaded in crooked. Any ideas on where I could find one?
Ill get a picture later....

are you talking about the housing for the oil filter or for the oil plug on your oil pan? on either you could try googling it or go talk to your local ford dealer and ask about it. Then get the part number and see if you can find it at your local autoparts store for cheaper.

ford is going to charge you out the ass for a factory pan...order an aftermarket pan...i suggest jegs
as for the stripping...is it the plug that is stripped (couple of $), or do you know if it's the pan...i assume you aren't talking about the filter nipple since the plug is the problem

That's a Ford part man. Or a junkyard. You could also look into adapters I suppose.

Its not the pan at alll.. its the housing that mounts to the side of the block... his oil pressure has been acting goofy on his stock gauge... so we were putting in a autometer... we took the plug out of housing. drilled and tapped it for the autometer sending unit. and it went back in crooked... now its stripped and is leaking even more than it was before... its a #8 o ring thread... im going to try and re tap it for 5/8s pipe thread since the diameters are the same and use a different plug... i bet it works... but now i got to wait til i get keys for it again and can pull it in the garage.

Yea a pic would be nice.
I assume the threaded part is what you screw the oil filter onto? |

The front cover costs more than $200 so be careful that you get it right. Perhaps you can drill and tap it for a bushing that will bring it to the correct thread size.

I completely understand what you're saying, though it doesn;t seem like anybody else does. It really has nothing to do with the oil filter. It's the plug that goes in the end that you have to run an oil line from, that's how I know. And why did you re tap it in the 1st place? All you have to do is match up the plug that was in it with a fitting that would reduce to 1/8 npt or whatever it is for your gauge. It's a standard thread, not NPT. What your doing seems like the best bet to fix it.

+1 on above. You could have just reduced it. Since you have a tap and the threads are already shot I would try retapping it to a different size. You might get lucky. If not instead of buying a new oil filter housing look and locate the oil pressure sensor. It is a pain to get at, but with time you can work it out. And since his oil pressure gauge is working up you can then install the oil sending unit for the autometer in there. Again it is a pain to get at due to the location. Then if you take and either put some silicone gasket on the threads of the plug or something like that to prevent it from leaking you could plug that hole. Then you could use the oil sensor port for the oil sending unit for the autometer.

I'm lost... My oil filter screws on to my oil pump, which is held to the timing chain cover by 6 bolts. I have no brass fittings around my oil filter. Pics would be great but I understand you don't have the vehicle... I have a plug near the bottom of the oil pump (where the filter mounts to) that takes an allen key to remove, tried to take it out before and it's in there good, is that the location/fitting you're referring to? If so a new oil pump would resolve the issue and they're less than $100. Hope that helps a little, maybe?
Best of luck either way. Sorry if I'm completely off but I would really like to understand where the problem is at!
