I took the car to a mechanic and he said that it is cracked all the way around. The car sounds like it is popping popcorn when decelerating and it wsounds like atank when accecelerating. it has buring noises and it is on the right side of the car. I was told to replace the manifold, but I need to know how

no no no, your exhost must be balanced!, some backpressure is good, but a lot is bad, the flow give some more air velocity to the engine. its all simple air flow dynamics, its like putting a 1000cmf carb on a 81 celica 4 banger, would all that flowgive you more power? no!

and the different between manifolds and headers
manifold go into one big collection area before exiting while headers stay separate till they exit.

Oh come on now green this is easy -

Their 99$ a SIDE... and in the case that you need BOTH SIDES
99x2 = 198

The Shorties are 219

And: Headers have the own exhaust pipe which is ran into the collector, where stock mainfolds do not.

The damn Car

Ok the mech. said that the right lower manifold is cracked all the way around. I have a good deal on a manifold for the car I am not worried about the price. But i was told that I would have to remove the engine out of the car to fix it and that seems kinda pointless since I am doing it myself. What i want to know is that if I need to take it off are there are free website car fixers on here???

you do not need to take the engine out. I am pretty sure it is just bolted on. I would go grab a Haynes manual it will have step by step instructions.

yep its just bolted on easy to remove do this with the exhaust system warmed because that way u wont risk breaking a exhaust stud if you do good fuckin luck tapping your engine block heed my warning its not fun also dont burn ur self! if your putting long tubes on you may need ot unbolt the engine mounts and lift the engine a little to get them to slide into place on the studs correctly.

replacement of exhaust manifold

If it is the same as a 99 V6 the job is certainly possible with the engine in the car. You are talking about the right exhaust manifold? The air intake tube needs to come out (the part that connects between the air filter and throttle body). Then there are two tubes connected to the manifold for EGR/air injection. Disconnect the one at the front and disconnect the front end of the tube that connects at the back of the manifold. The second tube can stay connnected to the manifold, though it would be much easier if you could remove it. Remove the two nuts at the lower exhaust flange to Y pipe. Remove the six nuts that hold the manifold to the head. Then remove the studs from the head. There is a hex end on them that fits a 5 mm socket. It should then be possible to remove the manifold and attached tube from the top.

Reassemble in reverse order with a new manifold and gasket. The nuts are tightened to about 30 ft lbs as I remember.

It would be helpful to soak all the nuts with penetrating oil overnight before taking it apart.

Its simple and pretty straight foreward...juts bolts right on...I did my long tubes with a couple jackstands....no need to pull the engine...there is a walkthrough somewhere on here with pics that should help you. That's what I used
