I have this rattling/ ticking kind of noise when I start my engine only for a few seconds right when it starts n then it goes away. I dont know what it could be besides the starter but I dont want to buy a new one and that not be the issue.

exhaust leak, valve or lifter noise, or if you have a 5 speed throw out bearing. (noise only present when the clutch is disengaged) or starter pinion sticking in flywheel. could also be water pump on the way out, a/c clutch is on its way out, or timing chain tensioner is bad, or a pulley is shot.

well it sounds like the starter to me, im having the same problem and i asked 97stanger and he said its the starter cause the starter is only for only a few seconds after you start the car then turns off. i have advanced discount auto parts in town, and i can buy a revamped one for 100 then take my old one back to them and get 40 bucks back. id bet money that its the starter
