Never use this tool for rear brake calipers

http://static.summitracing.com/globa...-w80621_cp.jpg

Changed the rear brakes on my newly aquired Mustang (new ford owner). Holy crap! I had that square piece of ass tool that looks like something out of Hellraiser to turn the caliper back in, what a big mistake! I had to get a buddy to hold it down while I tried to fit the adapter in (had to be the smallest and least teeth), turn it, and push in. Spent forever on it until I learned to beat the rachet with a hammer while turning it. WHAT A TASK! Now that I look at it I only spent 5 bucks on the tool (instead of the more expensive hefty better tools) but if I had to do it again, I would go ahead and rent a high class device. WHAT A PAIN IN THE BUTT! But its done and over now....DONT BUY THIS TOOL!

There's a similar but larger version that is designed for Ford brakes.

Ah. Ya, I hated that. I used neddle n0ose plier and
C-clamps on the front. Found out the hard way that the back ones lock up it you try to just push them in...

If you use this technique on mustang rear calipers youll bust the piston. You've got to turn the rear pistons in.

I just rent the oem tool from the auto parts store.

YEA! LOL! The back ones are a lot diffrent than just pushing them in. You NEED TO TURN THEM as well as push. Whoever said they push the rear ones in with a C-clamp or beat them straight in with a mallet is smoking crack or has one nasty mod done....

Compress rear brake calipers

I would actually recommend buying the universal brake caliper cube. Though non of them fit, minor modifications will allow the tool to work.

Take the surface with the 4 small pins in each corner. Take off 2 DIAGONAL pins with a hack saw, and file down if necessary. It is now wide enough to lock into the slots on your rear brake caliper.

Works like a charm.

I just tried using that cheap tool two nights ago and the first brake it worked perfectly to compress the piston. But there was two much pressure after the first one was done so i had to go at 9:00pm to autozone to rent the caliper tool set and i was done in 5 minutes. It took me over 4 hours to change just the rear pads because i kept trying to get the cheap tool to work. I know from now on i will be buying the caliper tool set instead of the cheap tool.
