01 3.8 short ram air intake or cold air intake?

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. I have a 01 3.8 coupe and I've read numerous differences between short ram air intake like the kn and the bbk's and other cold air fender intakes. But no one has made mention if one is more ideal for the v6 model. The only thing I can see is a huge price difference. I plan on picking up a airaid poweraid tbs this weekend and I'm thinking that the short air would work better but before I drop 300.00 bucks id really like to ask you guys. Oh, I also have the specific 3.8 magnaflow exhaust setup with a pair of mil eliminators and just recently put in some autolite iridiums along with your standard tune up. I'm just looking to upgrade air befor fuel.

No need to go throw $300 away

Mustang V6 Cold Air Intake Kit at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!

A lot of people around here use that CAI and it works pretty much as well as any other CAI. I'm pretty sure it's a Stack Racing CAI without any markings. And with the money you saved, you can put that towards something else

As far as CAI vs RAI, I would personally go CAI. Cold air > warm air when it comes to what's going into your engine.

there is no reason to spend hundreds of dollars on a brand name, most people with sixxers on this forum buy that CAI because it is a good intake for a great price. Even if something went wrong AM would replace it for you.

Yup I have one of the AM ones and it works perfectly and just like any other CAI out there. The only difference I can see is filter size but the one the AM CAI comes with is perfectly fine. I mean if you want you can buy the AM one and throw a K&N sticker on it haha.

I got that $75 CAI from AM and i couldnt be happier with it. What i love the most is that is whistles when you accelerate. Just ckeck it out on the site. I h ave a 01 and the CAI goes straight into the fender. It also replaces all the pipeing up to the throttle body. Was a little hard to get it to fit just right but once you get it then it will look and sound great

if you really wanna be cheap, then just buy a huge filter and make your own piping from home depot and just clamp it all. just remember you need to put the MAF housing in there too and holes for any hoses

I actaully own the expensive K&N FIPK filter. I like it, but I have noticed that with the short ram intakes give you a jerk sometimes at cruising speed. I have read up on it and it seems like it is common with the K&N. I would not waste the money on brand like others said. The cheap americanmuscle one looks great and performs.

They're about as good as the "big name" CAIs. The only trouble you might run into is some rusting on the plate that holds the tubing/filter in the fender. I plan on pulling mine out and just painting it. I never was a huge fan of the chrome

I havent run into any rusting problems on mine just yet but thats not to say that it couldnt still happen. And the chrome part is very true, right now its the only thing chrome under my hood so it does look a little funny haha. But really if you just need a cheap CAI that can give you 5-10 hp this is probably it.

Yeah depending on how the weather is where you live. If it's hut outside 90% of the time you're better off with ram air considering there's not much cold air to be taken in. Agreed with the "no need for brand name" comment. Good luck!
