New 95 Stang

Hey guys. I just got a 1995 3.8 stang, a very nice car. Im having some troubles though. I got an aftermarket exhaust on it, and a MAC cild air induction with the filter out in the fender. My car dont want to start unless i give it some gas, and it dont like to accellerate... after 55 mph it accelerates fine, but it acts like something is bogging it down. The service engine light stays on...

My guage cluster is screwy too... i have oil pressure when i shut the car off, and when i turn the key on it goes down to no pressure, and when i turn the key all the way on the pressure builds up without turnin then engine on, then i turn the engine on and the guages go up like they should. under normal driving conditions, the temp guage rides high on the normal, and when i rode it relatively hard it goes into the red.

Im concerned mainly about the engine temp, cuz its either over heating, or the guages are screwy. The acceleration is horrible... it takes a while to downshift and it dont accelerate, its as if its being starved for air or fuel, but when it gets to 55 or 60 it accelerates like all get out. What do you guys think? Im new to the car thing, i know lots about atv;s, and general operations of a car like intake and stuff like that... but i dont know how to tune it up. Thanks for any feedback.

go get a full engine diagnostics test on your car at a mechanic sounds like you just need a good overall tune up and some replacement parts.

lol.. i know it needs a tune up. I just dont think there is anyplace here that can do it. i also need a resoivoir for the wiper fluid, i aint too worried bout it.

What is a sure fire way to tell if its really over-heating or if its a guage? thanks!

Its a full intake. and i think its catback... also got MAC headers on it. I think it needs a tune up, but it takes it around 30 seconds to get up to 75 mph. it aint normal lol. How can i tell if its catback or not? thanks.

thermostat

a thermostats like 8-12 bucks and if u follow the top radiator hose up it'll be there i takes all but a half an hour to change and u need a new gasket for it to and u need to but this blue seal stuff around the gasket dont know what its call just know where it is and that i have to use it, a cat back goes from the Y-pipe/x/h pipe back if u have headers a midpipe and mufflers back to exits its a full exhaust, put ur stock intake back on and c if u still have ur problem if ur MAF sensor is not plug in or is reading to much air without a tune to tell it it should be getting that much its going to run like shit since its EFI and all

Other modifications can affect even a stock sensor. The airbox, inlet tube and intake tube to the throttle body will cause the system as a whole to be slightly different. Let's not get too freaked out though. Again, the benefits of these mods are often marginally good. One key thing to remember is that the closer the MAF is to the throttle body the higher the effect the intake feedback has on the meter's accuracy. The fewer restrictions you have between these parts also can cause problems, usually rough idle and poor performance at low throttle positions. Ideally get the MAF farther away from the throttle body.

a friend sent me that.. how would i move the MAF further away from the throttle body? The intake is steel.... Could i get the MAF re-programmed?

DO NOT jack up your car from your differential. You run the risk of hurting your suspension. Also that is not a sturdy enough place to put a jack, and you could hurt yourself, and other parts of your car.[/i]

jack

yeah actually thats wear u jack a RWD car up at and its pretty much the most sturdy place to jack it up at, never met anyone in all my years of fixing cars and helping fix them that doesnt jack it up there maybe on the 99 up with IRS it might do something but not on a sold axle 95 mustang trust me jack it up there, no damage will ever come of this to your pumpkin(diffrential)

the IRS is only on the Cobras, and also I have never seen anyone who knows what they are doing jack a car up by the differential. We have spots on the car for jacks, and jack stands for a reason. I would feel better to jack the car up by one solid piece of metal, than by a part that is on there, by your suspension, brake lines, and some bolts.

Lets stay on topic please, i need to get my baby fixed

Will advanced autoparts be able to get my stang fixed up? Would it be a good idea to run premium gas, and some STP fuel system cleaner through it? What else should be done to it?

What about my guages... i should not have oil pressure with the engine turned off, yet, when its just sitting there turned off, i got normal oil pressure. Same thing with my temp gauge.
