So...should I keep it or scrap it...

So here's what happened, and I'm at a loss. I posted a bit about it yesterday, but here's the whole story.

At a few points the trottle became completely unresponsive. The car was slowing on it's own. I could floor it and nothing happened, no rpms, no stuttering, nothing, it was like it was in neutral and coasting.

After that fixed itself it started running hot, so I pulled over and check the coolant, it was fine, the upper hose was screaming, and the lower hose was ambient temp, I checked it about 10 miles down the road and both hoses where hot then. I did not see any coolant leaking from anywhere.

Then it started to lose oil pressure. When I removed the oil cap there was smoke coming out( been informed that was because of how hot the engine was).

After that the car was VERY difficult to start. It would turn over, but it did not want to start, and when it did start I would have to keep the rpms up or it would die.

Finally it got to where it was running too hot and the oil pressure went completely so I had to park it on the side of I68 in maryland 8 hrs from home.

So my debate is is it worth spending the money and 16 hrs to get the car. Is it going to cost an arm and a leg to fix. I was told it could possibly be the computer since all those things went at once...

Any ideas guys

Computer, negative...

Your looking at a a new engine at this point, just from reading:

1.) you most likely over heated the engine
2.) you most likely warped the heads
3.) you most likely spun a bearing

So at the minimum, you would prob need to have the crank polished, the heads milled, new bearings, new head gaskets.

In other words it would be cheaper to find a 3.8L engine from a junk yard and swap it into your car.

Agreed.

You could rebuild the one from a junkyard to your liking before putting in as we'll.

or get a gt motor for the same price and do the same amount of work putting it in

but yes, you need a new engine. if you have a truck you could rent a uhaul car tower thing and tow her home on that would cost u about 50-100$ probably + gas and im sure u can find an engine for 1 grand, if you can put it in urself thats free if u cant install is probably 6-700$ id bet.

or you could try to get it going and smash into something and get insurance money to buy a new car

GT engine would also require a wire harness, computer, rear end, and possibly drive shaft to go with it though.

Well, you don't need the rear end. But you might need a different trans or at least bellhousing to mount it to the engine. But it's more complicated than just swapping it in like the guy above said. If it was that easy, I would have a V8 in mine for the less than $1000 you can find good complete ones for.

why spend the money to tow it home at all? Get it fixed where it is at and then drive it home..

Unless squirrels or mountain lions can fix it....plus I would imagine if it was anywhere where somebody could fix it I'd be in a hotel for a few days

I would definitely trust the mountain lions over the squirrels. Those guys are sneaky bastards.
Seriously though, I am sure there is a shop between where you car is and 8 hours away.

If I'm going to have it fixed I'd rather do it close to home, cause if they try to screw me I can just go pick it up, but if I have it towed to the closest town...about 50 miles, I'd owe a crap load to the tow company, and then I'd still have to go get it, plus I'm sure when they find out I do live so far away, the prices go up

I am sorry, but I would not invest so much cash into a 95 v6.
If the thing is that far away I would just sell it as is honestly.

Cars don't last forever...

They are just steel, glass, and plastic...

In your heart, you will know when it is over and time to start fresh...

My old car was pretty easy to figure out After 15 great years, it burned to a cinder in the middle of the street...

The fire department took that picture, I was two blocks away because I knew that SOB was full of gas!! But they got it out in time...

Theory is the the transmission torque converter split a weld that cold night and the fluid ignited deep inside...

16 hours later, problem solved

Yeah, I could afford it... The book on the old one was $800 running and I paid $100 to have the disaster just "disappear" in the late of that night... When you drive old cars you keep a piggy bank, and mine got tapped for $6500 that day But that last one was 15 years back, so WTF...

In your case, the engine is all gone and I think you just need to find a brand new friend. I have driven all mine to the scrap yard. Sometimes, the best thing about and old car going bad, is finally getting a nice newer one

Don't look back and cry, just look far forward and be happy

"Know when to hold them, know when to fold them, and know when to just run very far away"...
