upgrading throttle body
so from what i've read on here, its pretty much pointless to upgrade the throttle body. I was thinkin maybe getting a 70mm throttle body then porting the upper and lower intakes to match. would it still be pointless to get a new throttle body?

In all reality the 300$ isn't worth it even with ported intakes.

the only time a TB would help at all is if you go with FI or some serious power.

It opens when u hit the accelerator to let more air go in your engine so you can accelerate, its right above your air intake. It also controls your idle with a screw that is attached to it.

A bigger tb won't do anything hp wise but it will give a little notice in different throttle response. just do to the greater volume of air entering quicker. it is not worth the 300 bucks. That would be the last mod I would do on our vehicles. You could get a lot better bolt ons for 300 bucks.

. . . .I wouldn't. . .I've read a few cases where people have switched over and have only seen a 2-3 hp gain with force induction (around the 400hp mark).

And the Throttle body response difference is due to getting more percentage of the air your engine needs at a sooner point in the pedal position. example. Stock TB- You see 50% air needed at 50% throttle. 70mm TB- you see 80% air needed at 50% throttle. Only reason to upgrade TB is if it can not keep up with CFM needed by the engine itself.

If you really want to get a bigger throttle body get a cheap GT one, they can be made to work with VAP's tb jig so im sure you can make it work on a stock setup, however i still think this would be a waste.
I could be wrong but if you up grade your throttle body to say 70mm your intake opening would still be stock right, making it useless? |

My sixer had the prototype tb from accufab which we helped road test. Power gains were minimal for the cost of what it would be.
Don't waste your money. If you haven't yet, do some gears. You will feel the difference A LOT more and spend just a little more than you would on a tb. |

I have a BBK 70mm and the power gain wasn't noticeable. It also has a bad habit of "sticking." Very hard to smoothly open it from idle making driveability pretty crappy. Anyone who has one, take it apart, knife-edge the butterfly, polish the crap outta the housing where the plate closes at, and grab some all purpose bearing grease and put a very light coat on the rubber o-rings, that'll make it smooth again, for about 8 months...
Ported the upper intake to match the TB opening and then you run into having no material left at the top where the idle air bypass passage is... It's all together a pain for no gain... You've been warned, LoL.

My planes all along were to make about 330 hp. Heads and a supercharger and I should be there.
