do you mean changing the whole engine or just doing the windstar intake swap?

You will need to do a split port swap first as the windstar is only for split port and not a the single port like your car is.

I too an interested in this.. and, not to hi-jack or anything (as i think this is relevant) but what are the differences between the single port mustang v6's, the split port mustang v6's, and the (split port) windstars? are the windstars better than the split-port mustang v6's?

ok to answer both the split port swap will give you some more hp and tq. the windstar intake swap will give you a lil more. but you need to do the split port swap before you can do the windstar intake.

for the split port swap you need: head's, lower intake from a 99+ v6.

the main difference between single and split is that with split you have about 20+ hp then single.

From what most people say here ,You will see closer to 40hp in gains from a split port swap.

so if i want to do a split port swap, the ONLY parts i need are the heads and lower intake? (aside from the obvious such as gaskets)

no, you need this

Split Port Swap
heres the full list (from plove71387):
-99+ mustang v6 heads (including valves/springs)
-99+ mustang v6 upper intake **
-99+ mustang EGR tube and valve
-99+ Throttle Body
-TPS sensor for TB (1-CX-1488 from Ford) if not already on TB
-Throttle cable from 99+ mustang v6
-Modified fuel rail that has a universal fuel pressure regulator, and a return line.
-Accelerator Bracket (F4SZ-9728-B) if not already included on upper intake
-99+ mustang v6 coil pack and wires (your stock coil pack will work too)
-99+ mustang intake tube, or any 99+ mustang CAI kit
-99+ mustang cooling hoses (including the ones going to the heater core) and pipes. You can also make your own lines, by using plumbing elbows, hoses and clamps, and fab it up yourself. (Definately get these if you can.)
-16 a.w.g automotive electrical wire
-teflon tape, pipe sealant, RTV
-99+ head bolts/studs
-head gaskets (I recommend 99+ mustang gaskets)
-99+ upper and lower intake manifold gaskets.
-99+TB gasket

Just a note on the bolded point. If you're doing the windstar swap, you ONLY be taking the upper intake manifold from ffrom a 96-98 Windstar. Do the swap at the same time as the split port swap and don't waste money buying an upper intake from a 99-04 V6. It will need some minor modifications and everything else will either be reused from your car (well the 99-04 parts), purchased new, or custom fabricated. Check out VAP Auto - Windstar Kit for a good idea of what parts you'll need for the swap. Vapauto sells all the custom pieces if you're not up for fabricating them yourself.VAP Auto - Windstar Kit

Since you're swapping in 99+ heads I'd say 99+ head gaskets are what you want.
