Transmission from a V8 work in a V6?

I have a 99 V6 Convertible with 150k miles, that has a crack in the transmission housing so been leaking transmission fluid for awhile. I've just been adding transmission fluid as needed figuring when the transmission started slipping I would take care of it then. Well, it started slipping a couple of days ago (doesn't seem to like 3rd gear much).

So I have been looking for a transmission and came across a Ford 4R70W with 41k miles on it for a really good price. But it came out of a V8, will it work in the V6?

Also thinking about doing an engine while I'm at it, what engines are direct bolt ins? Just the 99-00 mustangs, or are there others?

Thanks for any help!

Yes the 4r70w will fit fine, because its the same transmission that broke in your car :-)

The GT trans is stronger. 1st and Reverse are slightly steeper and 5th is slightly shallower. but I bet you wouldn't even notice it. Its like a .02 difference one all three.

Yeah, I can't do the standard thing (bad knee :0) )

How about the engine? Any suggestions on other stuff I should change out while I'm at it? I love my car, so anything that's going to make it keep going.

There are 2 engines on ebay with under 75k miles on them that I can pick up locally for pretty cheap, but I was under the impression that only 1999/2000 are direct fits.
