2000 V6 Single Exhaust Question.

Hi all! I’m kind of new to this forum. But I’ve been reading a lot about mustang exhaust for my 2000 V6 stang. I have one question that I can’t seem to find an answer to. I really wasn’t thinking of dual exhaust for my stang, because I can’t see how it would over all help my rwhp, but I still wanted to make it sound a little better then stock. I know I’ll get a little more power out of both setups. What I’ve read is the V6 alternates each side on the firing sequence, so gases should be escaping with little bottleneck through the Y and out the single muffler.

So, would an aftermarket muffler and a nice GT tip do the job? Does anyone have any pictures of single exhaust with a nice tip off the end? Also would I be ok staying with the stock 2.25” piping so not to lose low end torque moving up to 2.5”

Thanks all!

Before I go rambling off a bunch of info on exhaust I need you to answer 2 question for me.

Do you have any plans of going FI (boost), nitrous, or built internals?

Do you want your car to be louder? (not talking about obnoxious, just loud while sounding good)

Not going to spend money on boost. I do have CAI in it for extra sound and performance can't say its must of a boost.

Yes I would like the car to be a bit louder, but not crazy loud.

Over all I've had this car since new and I've never really done anything to it. It's really time for me to get a new car, but with 74k miles on it and paid for its hard to get rid of. I don't want to put to much money into it, but I've been having a bit of fun doing a couple mods to it. Comes right down to money I guess for this. If I can get away with a bit of performance boost and sound it would be worth it for me. Reason I've asked the forum is because I kind of want to hear everyones thoughts on it.

its really not expensive to go dual, there are countless threads on this topic. You aren't going to be happy with any single exhaust setup in my opinion...

Well I really think in the end you'll be happiest with dual exhaust. Even if you swap in an aftermarket muffler and larger tip onto the Y pipe, it's still going to be very quiet. Take a look at the exhaust clip thread at the top of the forum and see if you can find a sound you like. All the parts they used should be listed. If you take your car to an exhaust shop they should be able to fabricate a midpipe and put on mufflers + tips if your choice for $400 or less including labor.

Imho don't waste your money on a single exhaust setup unless you like the sound of a honda. If moneys an issue than look on craigs list for a gt cut off. Shouldn't be too much to install and will sound a lot better than single exhaust but won't be too loud.

Not to mention the look of a single GT, wont seem right. You can get GT take offs for cheap, usually in the 100-150 dollar range, piping tips included.
Another 100 for the install and youre set. You`ll be much happier

Make It Sound Loud / heavy throat = X-pipe with duals
Hear the RPMs / low throat = divorced duals (aka cat back)

I have the latter and love them. The Mustang engine "growl" is patent Ford. If you dont want to drown that out, go with divorced duals.

$400 at Meineke for Flowermasters installed.

i got straight true duals with no mid connector pipe and flowmaster super 44's, sounds beast(although since no connector i might have lost a little bit of back pressure at my idle, my idle doesnt sound as good cause i should have gone 2.25" pipe). my friend has the american thunder single exhaust though and he envies mine, go dual
