Newbie exhaust question for a 6 with straight pipes

ok this is my first posting so please dont get to made if its been discused just point me in the right direction. I recently found a set of true dual straight pipes off a 1998 mustnag V6 3.8 out in my local yard.....no cats or mufflers...just pure rumble. I got both sides for a wopping total of $18.00 they run from the manifold to the stainles tips....i actually think the hole thing is stainless the way it looks. Anways my question is this when i removed the part with the cats to install them i lost my drivers and passengers o2 sensor. How important are they to the car? The pony i took the pipes off of just had them connected and hanging there. Should i do the same? I grabbed the 02 sensors when i took the pipes and i haqve my old ones from the part with the cats. what harm will me not having them do? Hope im clear with my question. and thanks for any advice i get!

  • You don't need rear 02 sensors just the front ones.
  • you can get MIL eliminators, or just not worry about the check engine light
  • Please put some mufflers on that, because without it sounds like shit.

Well if the bad 02 sensor is sensor 1 bank 1 that needs to be replaced asap.

Other than that the bank 2 sensors, and cats, don't have to be on the car. I mean "legally" they do but it won't harm anything.

Bank 1 is the passenger side and bank 2 is the drivers side. Upstream O2 sensors are the ones right after the front cats and downstream O2 sensors are the ones near the rear cats.

I drew you a picture

Red rectangles are your cats
Blue circles are O2 sensors
Bank 1 = passenger side
Bank 2 = driver side
Upstream = closer to the engine
Downstream = further from the engine
