Is this possible? A/C and power steering?

I posted the thread the other day complaining about the small loss of power steering. One thing I realized is that its every time I run the A/C. I ran it awhile ago minus the A/C and let it idle on a clean parking lot and detected no leaks. I am positive it has something to do with the A/C. Can the A/C fuck up somehow on the belt and mess with something? Like freeze up or something? What do you guys think?

yeah the pulley could freeze up i guess. why don't you turn on the a/c, open the hood, and have a look? or the belt could be slipping due to being stretched out and not turning the powersteering unit.

Brand new serpentine belt, looks great. I do notice the pulley seems to spin then stop then spin when the a/c is on....only when the ac is on. That might be it? BTW, is it true if you disable the A/C you can speed up your car a wee bit?

Does this seem somehow correlated that it could be the power steering pump return hose? Would this cause the power steering leak from something to do with the A/C?

They're completely separate systems. The only real relation is the serpentine belt.

Disabling A/C doesn't really speed up your car since it turns off at full throttle anyways.

LOL. the first time I went drag racing I left the A/C on. Believe it or not, but your A/C clutch catching at 5500 rpms is NOT good. Your clutch bearing (or at least 3 of mine) will slowly go bad. Once this happens the bearing will start to grind and bind. If this happens, fix it ASAP. My bearing seized up while I was driving and it stalled my engine. I sprayed it with PB blaster to see if it would spin enough to start (I was a few miles from home) and it did, but it spun very poorly. The PB Blaster (WD-40) Let the belt slide and the pulley which melted it. I had to change it on the side of the road and learn the hard way, the third time, to turn my A/C off when i'm driving fast.

Long story short, if it is slowing you engine down, replace you A/C clutch assy. I noticed a power improvement right away.

Went out today, A/C turned off the whole time, rode around idling in hot weather. Came home, fluid level looks the same as yesterday. Hmm...it appears the A/C is causing this. Any ideas?
