service engine light flashing every 5 minutes???

I was driving up to jersey fromvirginia through that snow storm last night and as i hit the snow and was going 35 mph all the way through delaware and jersey my service engine light kept on flashing every five minutes. but when it first started flashing the car would almost stall out? anyone have an idea what that could be?

sputtering can be caused by a few things.. lack in appropriate amount of fuel pressure.. check fuel filters, pump, injectors
restrictions to air flow.. i.e. if u seriously have that turbonator all its going to do is restrict air flow.. whirling, twirling, etc.. b.s. lol
also check spark plugs and plug wires (i would start here since its a little simpler)..

mine was doing the exact same thing a while back (minus the CEL) and i changed the plugs and plug wires, now shes back in shape.. good luck, man

Your a/f may possibly be off. Take it up to advanced and get your codes read, and then come back and tell us what's goin on.

well if your having problems i would try ALL of the above and after that even if the problem is fixed go get a tune up and that will reduce the risk of further problems

check your entire fuel line, it could also be something as simple as you need new spark plugs ect.

I know blinking means random misfire but I think the misfire blink is fast and steady not just every 5 mins. Misfire is catastrophic failure and you need to go to a dealership or god mechanic to fix it. Go to a dealership tell them it is flashing and they can diagnose it.

You've been watching pinks way too much.... Their are several things that can cause a misfire. Its not catastrophic failure.

FYI:
Catastrophic failure is a sudden and total (or near total) failure which not only cannot be recovered from (the system which experiences it may be destroyed beyond any reasonable possibility of repair), but also frequently causes injury, death, or significant damage to other, often unrelated systems.

well any blinking check engine light is describe by a catastrophic mechanical failure by FORD so I was going off their definition.
They describe it as any mechanical failure that damages the car to point of totaling it or any failure that could cause the car to be hurt beyond repair.

its referred to a catastrophic failure because the failure detected can cause irreversible damage to your vehicle and yes thats how ford describes a flashing cell so faleen is correct.
