Engine rebuild questions

I am looking into some stroker kits and possible new engines. What would some high performance routes be without breaking the bank roll? And if any sites are known with good info or prices please post.

There are a lot of different ways to go but with out knowing what kind of budget youre on (if its not too personal) It would hard to make an affordable recomendation.

a cheaper route in building a v6 stroker would be to use the 4.2L f150 v6 block and the stroker kit so you don't have to get the machine work done and top that off with your SPI heads

here is a list of shops that sell 3.8 related parts;

supersix motorsports has great 4.2L and 4.3L stroker kits making 260rwhp n/a. they are costly though. delkperformance and vmptuning have guys who can point you in the right direction. hell, matthew neuhart form delk perf. just ran a 9.85 last weekend in his 6cyl. of course he is forced induction, but these motors have a strong block.

n/a 4.3L stroker kit from supersixmotorsports. makes 260rwhp safely and naturally aspirated. look at their site and look at the power packs they have for the stroker kits

If i could find a wrecked GT what would i all need to use. The trannys wont match up so i would need to take the whole engine and tranny out of both cars and swap in the new GT stuff. Or could i use certain parts of the GT engine to pump up my 6r.

Hey if you use the 4.2 Engine do you have to change all the computers and wiring harnesses or will the 3.8 computer work. And if I want to use a turbo whta do I have to do to the engine?

Yes the 4.2 motor will need the proper ECU to run. I am not very sure whether or not the wiring harness will work but I would venture a guess that it will not. If you are wanting to run a Turbo setup you need to look first and foremost at the engine internals. Are they forged? will they hold up? How much boost pressure will be running through the system and just how much can the internals take and still be safe.

When using the stroker kit do you just get the new crank and rods and put them in and thats it?

i have seen a 2000 v6 stock motor, new headgaskets, intercooled twin-turbo kit, j-mod 4r70w run with a safe tune run 400+hp at 17psi with no problems. so there is some strength to the stock motor, but the stock motor is not setup right to make the most out of the f/i.

you have several options on the stroker kit, getting one from supersix, morana or rpm-mustangs... each of their kits vary on what additional parts are offered. the other option is to go with make your own stroker kit. since your using a used block and looking to spend good money an a rotating assembly you will want to take your block to a machine shop for some work and clearance checking,

some things to consider;

overbore- if you are starting with a used block then you are gonna atleast have to get the block bored 0.010, but 0.030 being most popular

stroke- 3.8, 4.2, 4.3, 4.6? the connecting rods determine the height of your piston

piston style- 89-98 3.8 single port, 99-04 3.8s ,97-04 4.2s split-port

cr- 8.0:1 through 11:1

rings

rods- i-beam or h-beams, forged or cast? 351w or customs?

rod journal- bearing sizes
