would I need a new speedometer..
ok so if I get an uber amount of hp out of my engine, my top speed would be raised right? So since it would be raised from the 120, would getting a different speedometer actually get reported correctly or would it just be for show?

That's a good question that I'm not really sure of.
Don't forget about the speed limiter of 115mph, without a tune you'll never be able to even get to 120. Even if it did work, it's still just for show at that speed. When are you going to NEED to know the difference between 120 and 150mph? |

You can change it, but talk to us when you have an "uber" amount of power.

It would be a waste of money, do you seriously plan on driving over 120 so often that you would want a new speeometer? If so that's a bad idea and past that why does it even matter how fast your going ?

Agreed, and if you do plan on going over 120 because you have more power and such with a tune removing the speed limiter, just set your odometer into diagnostic mode and set it to the digital spedometer? I am sure you will know your going somewhere where you will be going over 120 before you even start your car to go as in THE TRACK. lol

lol gps kind of lags in that department though lol. Not as accurate if he put his odometer into diagnostic mode.

Depends on if you really care to know how fast you go. You'll probably only go past 120 a few times while you own the car and you'll have to remove the speed limiter before you can even go that fast. If you don't change the speedo then you can go faster than 120 but your speedo will stop at 120.

i didnt even know you could do the diagnostic thing on the odometer to tell you your speed. i'd rather do that anyways. save time and money. thanks for the input.

get an sct, take the limiter off, put a windstar and other bolt ons, and u can go faster ok. i got mine to about 135 or so, after all the bolt ons and windstar, and no limiter. i had it pinned for about 40seconds or so, and i was next to an sti, and thats what he said i was going till he passed me. so yea, get a tuner, and have a ball. edit... when stock, i was able to go to 118mph.

![]() If your speedometer "pegs" out and won't read any higher, no harm will be done to anything. You will not break the speedometer. It will work just fine again at less than 120MPH. Of course, you will not know if you are going 167MPH or 169MPH But does it really matter? They don't measure 1 and 2 MPH anymore either...There are some speed readouts that just plug into OBD-II to read out things now that are pretty nice. But keep your eyes on the road at those speeds ![]() G. |
