catylitic converters
ok so i though i would update on how my first mods went. installed the bbk cai and just got my super 44 muffler in today and i love the boost in sound and acceleration. worth the money but before i got my muffler installed the guy said that i was missing my two main catylitic converters. now it got me a little woriried becuase he said my check engine light will never come off but i need to know how much those would run? there has been 3 owners of my car before i bought it. the first was a 77 year old man who bought it used in 2002 but he passed away last year so the car went to i believe his daughter in ohio. ( i can tell becuase of the rust underneath and small oxidation on my engine). anyway she drove it down to tn last year to her brother whom i purchased the car from. when i bought it he had all the receits of it being serviced and i dont know what or who took them off and why? sorry for the length.

The dual converter assemblies are ~$1600 per side from Ford.
You can probably get the whole y-pipe with all 4 converters much cheaper than that from aftermarket suppliers. This is OK as long as you are not in Calif. In Calif. the converters have to be OEM. |

The entire y-pipe with all 4 converters is ~$500 for a Walker part from Rockauto.
It's OK for non Calif. use. |

I'm glad I read this thread. I am thinking about removing my catalytic converters, and just running straight pipes back to super 44s.

Some say you get more power, some say you don't I'll let others debate that, But it does make a drastic difference in the sound!

maybe it isnt dramatic, but less resistance to flow of air = more hp (as long as you keep enough back pressure)

Ok, so with the question about power, Some say removing all four will leave you without enough back pressure, and some say that not having the back pressure will increase performance. I have been back and forth on removing the two I have left. Any one running with no cats care to give me there input?
