Datalogging

Ok, so I am trying to datalogg my car. I am curious if I use the cable that I hook to the usb port that came with my xcal 3? I have all the livelink software downloaded, but when I plug it in with the xcal it says device not found.

General Datalogging How to Guide - Trick Tuners Forums
Getting Started

Load both of the Xcal drivers. Plug in the xcal and make sure it turns on and the computer gives some sort of connected message. Then unplug it. I've found that the best way to reduce livelink errors is to always reboot the computer before doing any data logging and follow this order.

1. Plug the SCT device into the OBD2 port up under the drivers side dash. Start up the livelink with no other programs running and wait for it to load, but to not touch anything.
2. Then plug the SCT device into the usb port of the computer and start the car.
3. Click on the graph icon (under file on the top left) to select the options you would like to data log. If you are not logging any external signals click OK and it should say verifying PIDs and the options should pop up.

Ok, so this is getting annoying am i retarded or what?

I hooked the xcal into the car first.
Then I started live link on computer with nothing else running.
I then connected the usb cable from the xcal to the computer with the program running.
I then clicked the graph button.

I still get the same device failed to open, failure to connect. I have tried all three usb ports on my computer same thing. I even tried connecting usb to computer, then open livelink and try it. It does the same thing. What am I doing wrong? Do I somehow have to add my device to livelink?

2 things I've figured out...
Livelink hates windows vista and windows 7

Anyway did you download the firmware?

Normally when I install on a new computer I download the firmware, download live link, then I'll plug the sct in to make sure everything runs good. Then out to the car I'll plug the sct into the car, then into the laptop and normally it works.

Did you load the drivers for the X3? Typically its best to always use the same usb port.

Open up device manager and see if there is a yellow question mark that pops up when you plug the X3 in without the livelink software running. The drivers are stored in the SCT folder in the program files folder. If you plugged in the x3 and clicked ignore when the computer tried to load the drivers then you would probably get that message. Call up SCT if you are still having trouble.

Mine gives me trouble half the time, even though I do it exactly the same. Neither I nor my tuner know why.

Ok well I now got the device to open in the livelink. I deleted and installed it again, and it was a newer version and now it works.

Now I selected the items to datalog by clicking on the little graph thing and then picking them from the list. They show up on a list. I then click the checkmarks next to them. But then when I start my car and datalog only like one if any will show values in the chart. What is going on?

well...i personally like my mac better because i like coding with it better. Im a huge fan of applescript. I also do have a pc and use it often for things my mac cant do. I do think both have there better points but im just a bigger fan of apple.

You need to run everything as the administrator and in xp compatibility mode. Enable those options on livelink and the drivers just to be sure.

Ok, I will look at the XP compatibility mode.

And oooohhhhh. I think I figured it out. I would not have the car running while I clicked the graph Icon. I will try that and if it don't work post back up.

Ok, I am about on the verge of taking my tuner and shoving it up SCT a**

This is absolutely ridiculous. I just went to try datalogging my car for the fifth time. Did exactly like joe said.

I plugged in tuner on obd2 port. Started up livelink with nothing running. Then plugged tuner into laptop. Then started car. Then clicked graph. Still nothing only the time changes none of the items datologged do.

Ok how do I change the xp compatible mode?

Also this livelink must be new cuz it is different than the old one it is livelink 6.0 the extra shi*** version.
