(2000 V6) Can I take off my Catalytic Converters?

I have a 2000 V6 Mustang and i put a 40's flowmaster in place of the muffler for better sound, and i left the cats on. I would like to take them off but I was told that if i take them off or punch holes in them to clear the stuff out, I will mess up some kind of sensor or something?

If i take my cats off, will it mess up anything or set off any weird sensors?
Will the car sound louder without cats?

Thanks for any help

Your rear O2 sensors are going to think your cats went bad and throw codes. If you don't care about having a CEL light on all the time then don't worry about it. If you have a handheld tuner then you can have whoever writes your tunes turn off the rear O2s. Or you can just buy a set of MIL eliminators (AM carries them).

You will have Check engine light come on, but it won't cause any problems. Taking the Catalytic Converters out will make it louder (but so would having real dual exhaust) and it will become raspy....

I want a Cadillac Converter!

I went to school to be a mechanic, so I know what I'm talking about most of the time.

mods in the garage, slowly getting peppier.

mine are off and like mcqueen said the only thing that happens is your CEL stays on but if you get mil eliminators for 60 bucks at am it goes away. now im going to get some soon but havent yet. i have a super 44 muffler and a bbk cai and when my car was stock i noticed then when i would eventually pull up to a another v6 stang mine was considerably louder when taking off but taking them off doesnt make a big difference so i would leave them off.

Oklahoma FTW.

Don't even have inspections. Haven't had cats for at least 4+ years.
