Wow, that's some crazy shit.. So you took cash instead of getting your car back, I guess your insurance company gave you a hell of a settlement if you didn't take your car back lol Your basically looking at Black book value of your car here if it's stolen unless you got good insurance on yours...Glad it all worked out for you though, I'm gonna set myself up with one of those viper alarms for my stang since I'm moving to a new area and I'm gonna find my old school club to lock my steering wheel lol

I know that the passive anti-theft system scans an encoded chip embedded in the proper ignition key to help prevent a thief from starting the engine, but my question is, are they still able to hot-wire the car??? Second, I'm not too sure if my alarm is even working..i can break into my own car w/o even hearing the sound of the alarm.. Can anyone give me any input on the alarm systems put on our vehicles, how they work, or how it's suppose too..
Answer for ignition bypass
On the key itself is not a special micro chip in any way shape or form
In fact all it is is a resistor embeded in the keys black plastic
look closely at the top of the key where your keychain hooks onto it
should see like a small square in the fat part of the key it leads down towards the
metal part of the key you will find at the base of the key where it meets the plastic part of it
a funny lil squiggly and kind of a lil bubble shape to it thats the contact leads to it that the ignition connects to to read the resistance that is passed through it so if you and your bro
have the same key it may let you in and turn the ignition but not start your car cause the resistance in the key is diff

under the cover of the column is 2 wires in housed in a bright yellow or dull orange or white or black plastic sleave is 2 wires of the same color which are the contact wires that the pcm uses to read the key that is incerted into the ignition to test the resistance in the resistor that is in your key if one day you go out to start your car and "YOUR KEY" does not allow you to start your car the problem may lye in that department as for it can't read the resistance anymore.
"WARNING" "BELOW"
THIS IS NOT FOR AN AMATEUR IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING DO NOT TRY THIS AS FOR YOU CAN DEPLOY YOUR AIRBAGS AND RENDER YOUR SELF OR YOUR SAFETY USELESS. IN THAT CASE YOU IN NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM WILL I BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS FROM HERE THIS IS CLEARLY FROM MY LINE OF STUDY AND THERE ARE CHANCES THAT MY STUDY MATERIAL MAY HAVE BEEN WRONG SO PLEASE TAKE ALL NECESSARY CAUTIONS. AND NO I'AM NOT YELLING LOL.... JUST MAKING SURE THIS IS READ CLEARLY BEFORE ANYONE HURTS THEIR SELF FOR NOT KNOWING WHAT THEY ARE DOING, AND ONE MORE THING THIS IS NOT A WRITE UP ON HOW TO STEAL A CAR EITHER THIS IS FOR THE CASE LIKE I WAS IN WHERE MY CAR WOULD NOT START WITH MY KEY AND HOW I BYPASSED IT TO GET TO START AGAIN. SO PLEASE DO NOT MISUSE THIS MATERIAL TO GO OUT AND STEAL CARS FROM PEOPLE WE ALL WORK TO HARD FOR OUR CARS, REMEMBER IT TAKES A REAL MAN TO BUST YOUR ARSE TO BUY AND BUILD A CAR IT TAKES A PUNK KID TO STEAL IT ---------------->
tell the dealer you think that you want to test the resistor in your key if you can get them to read the resistor on your key ask them what was the resistance was
then go to radio shack and pick up the resistor and go to the wires in the column and place the resistor between those wires and try your key it should start it up then

Other write up's on the subject about the key system that I am referencing to.
cheers to all!!!!!!!

For added security
locate the fuse for your ignition pull the fuse out when you go to bed.

On the right side of that connector should be the hot wire when the ignition is engaged with the key to the on position if that fuse there blows the car won't start it only goes crankie crankie crankie no startie lol... that kills power to the coils you will not have spark till that connection is made by fuse or switch
I will not include the rest lol.....
