Mustang Alarm/Anti-Theft system

I have an 02' Coupe and I have a general question about Ford's alarm/anti-theft system. I know that the passive anti-theft system scans an encoded chip embedded in the proper ignition key to help prevent a thief from starting the engine, but my question is, are they still able to hot-wire the car??? Second, I'm not too sure if my alarm is even working..i can break into my own car w/o even hearing the sound of the alarm.. Can anyone give me any input on the alarm systems put on our vehicles, how they work, or how it's suppose too..

IDK if any of them have an alarm, I've never seen one. PATS will let the engine turn over, but not start. It will cut fuel to the engine, maybe spark too.

I know I have an alarm, but the only thing I have seen trigger it is say the top is down or the window is open. If I lock my doors via remote, and walk over to my car and press the unlock button inside and open the door the alarm goes off. Thats the only thing I have seen thats triggered the alarm. And I know I don't have to worry about anyone stealing my car, I could hand them the keys and they still couldnt steal it lol. I got one of those chips from VMP that I can pull the chip out (of a disclosed location) and try to start the car but the key wont even turn to the on position. But Ford probably should of done a better job on the stock alarm.

I don't have an alarm, so this is way out of what I know. I just know it would cost both arms and my left nut to get an alarm put on my car.

only some have the alarm, i have the alarm but not the remote lol so mine is useless til i bother to get the remote.

If you lock it via the remote and open it any other way other than the remote or key the alarm will go off.

ahh so that is how the alarm work my key remote locks the doors and if i press it twice it gives one little honk sound like its enabling the alarm.i think you have to hit the lock button twice in a row to enable it not real sure but think so.

Factory anti-theft doesnt do $hit except for giving you a false sense of security. Do not rely on it for protection. Ask me how I know
An alarm system along with a tracking device is the way to go.

Thanks for all the input, this is the reason I posted this thread, I don't think my car has the alarm. The only time I will even hear my alarm is if I press the panic button. That's about it. As for you Michael, did you get your car back after it was stolen?

I was checking out some of these alarms, but I halted to purchase one because I thought maybe somewhere in my stang, it was equipped with an alarm

Here in Canada, insurance companies allow 30 days for vehicle recovery as the chances for recovery beyond 30 days are unlikely.
Fastforward 30 days and still no news, insurance co. makes me a settlement offer I cant refuse, I accept, find another car, make a deal.
The very next day, I get a call from the Surete de Quebec, the provincial police force, stating they recovered my car, get this, 3 weeks prior!
It took them 3 weeks to make a phone call. They are just as incompetant as every other Quebec run organization.
Long story short, I refused the `02, took the money and ran.

Having said that, I would`nt wish that experience on my worse enemy, however, all is well that ends well I suppose.
