I frequently wash my engine bay with no problems. I use pep boys purple engine degreaser let sit for 5 minutes (with special care taken not to get it on my chrome intake because lime stains do not wash off) and then i rinse with high pressure water. In fender intakes are in no danger but yes, the cooler the motor the better. Also afterwards I like to take it for a quick jaunt on the interstate just to dry everything off.

Drive a CAI through a deep enough puddle... watch the magic

(just last week their was a pretty decent sized puddle and a guy here with an SS camaro and a custom ram air setup(like GF's) ran through a puddle and .... well no more ls1

like i said lol.. avoid spraying the area your air filter is completely.. you can just clean it by hand
