My Alpine just pulls out. Take the faceplate and trim off, then pull on it where ever you can get a grip.It might be the wires in the back getting caught on something.

Pull the cubby hole out and try to push the back of it.

Most aftermarket head units require keys to get them out...basically little metal hook type things that you jam down the sides and they grab onto something and pull the head unit out from the mounting cage.

I have never seen an after market one use the key. Mine bolts in, but I have the double din. All the other decks I have worked with will have clips on the dash kit the just hold it in there snug.

My kenwood head unit came with a set of the metal strips/keys to take it out. I am sure they are probably the same for all the kenwood systems. Look on ebay for alpine key/strips.

same with my pioneer. I also had the double din and my cd player was seperate from the radio itself. Working on something to fab that up! Anyways. Yeah take off the face, and border, and it should have a place to put a "key"

These here are what my stereo came with for removal keys: They worked great since I pulled the radio back out because I'm going to sell the car. Also when you get it out, check what kind of stereo system you have. The basic system will have 2 connectors, 1 black and 1 gray. The premium will have the gray connector and then 2 metallic connectors (1 6pin and 1 8pin) and an amp housed in the dash. This in very important if you're getting a new stereo system because you'll need the right wire harness.

Yep, I had the premium too. Being a V6 I figured I'd just have the base so that was the wire harness I ordered with my stereo. Ended up going to Wal-Mart and picked up one that kind of worked although it didn't have anywhere to plug in the rear subs. I dealt with it for a few weeks before putting the factory stereo back in. I'll get the correct wire harness when I sell this car and get a new Mustang.

Problem is some aftermarket stereos have a sleeve that goes over stereo. The stereo locks into the sleeve and the sleeve locks into the dash so trying to force it out will damage the dash. The sleeve is a pain in the ass to get out even with the stereo out of it

You can try taking off the plastic trim from the center console (which I think is all the cage/sleeve holds on to). While its out you can paint it to match your exterior

if you need the key, take a piston ring and cut it in half and maneuver it into the slot of the keys, thats what i did with mine and got it out in 15 minutes, beats having to go buy one for sure, but than again, i don't know who all has an extra piston ring lying around .
