my car is like that to. last i was on the interstate i was abour 2.5k at 70mph cruising.

This whole thread is whack as hell ! lol

Your cars O/D is ON when you start your car. Pushing the button on the shifter turns O/D OFF. O/D is a 4th gear in an auto, turn it off and it wont allow the trans to shift into 4th gear. It would be like driving the highway in a standard in 4th gear instead of 5th ...
You might feel a little more "performance" with it off, but only like 35-40+ mph. Turning it off just keeps it from going into 4th or will take it out of 4th gear. You will run the same speed at a higher rpm, making accel faster, heat up faster, or if you let off the gas it will slow down faster lol. When your cruising around at higher speed and slam on the gas and it drops gears, that your car going from 4th to 3rd .... same thing just does it for you.

and fyi, ive got 3.73's and im running like 2400 rpm at 70 in 4th. Cant remember for sure, but i think taking off O/D and running in 3rd @ 70 adds like 500rpm but I cant remember Ill just have to test it and remember ...

BTW, If you know how, you can make your auto a 4speed standard ... just shift it yourself, wont engage the gears like a standard cause you dont control the clutch

but hey you can shift - 1st, to 2nd, to D(3rd)(w/ O/D off), to O/D (4th)

i was thinking of something totally else last night but got it all solved out now. and btw you explained this very well and if you would of said this last night it would've saved me and others alot of typing

well i aint been on in a while sorry or I would have lol, I dont think I made it all the way through 2nd page here today before I got tired of the convo and put in my 2 cents lol

so I hope you understand it now, I just had to try and explain this to my girl, she's driving a v6stang and her grandpa(who is a mechanic) told her driving w/ it off would save gas, I think he was confused as to what was off and what was on, like you, cause I was like FTWWTF ????? lol haha

I never use O/D. Unless I'm on the hi way. I like buzzing around town in 2nd gear.

i actually drive with o/d on 99 percent of the time. im goona try o/d for awhile to see if i like it

O/D off = 2nd gear ??? should be third in town, but hey in town to me would equal 30-40 mph in 2nd ... that would be 2k+ thru town at all times lol

and as for topping out, leave it off till you need to change gears then hit it back on and it will shift down. 3rd to O/D shifts pretty quick in rpm

It will make no difference on or off. If are giving it WOT from 0-60 it will never hit 4th gear. You should be just about topped out of 2nd at 60mph. All O/D is is your 4th gear. By not using it, you are wasting gas. The individual gear ratios determine whether it is an O/D or not. For example your 4th gear has a ratio of .67. Since it is less that 1:1 it is an overdrive gear. The output shaft is spinning faster than the input shaft.
This is very similar to the 5th gear on a 5-speed. My T-5 has a 5th gear ratio of 0.68:1. My 5th gear is just like your 4th gear.

i drove today without o/d on and it was a good run. more get up and go with that 4rth gear cut out. im probably gonna switch between the two.

I've already talked to that guy about J Mod. I need to run up to junk yard and get a core. But all the V6s got picked to the bone last week.
