V6 setup to beat a stock GT
My bud's got a 97 GT and has been begging for me to race him for awhile. I've got no performance mods but I've got some money to spend so what can I do to get faster?

How much money do you have to spend?
Are we talking twin turbo money? Or nitrous money? |

I got a 2000, and I have enough money for nitrous, but I was looking more towards internals and such.

If you have a 2000 you've almost got him as it is.
If he's stock you could go for CAI ($70), Tuner($380), Gears($150) and a TLOK($220) That should put you around 15.3 in the 1/4 mile. Oh and you'll need this Install Kit and add on about $500 for installation of the gears. Mine with similar mods and an automatic goes 15.0's |

CAI is not a very good first mod, go with the windstar intake. Using ebay etc. you can piece one together for less then 300 or just buy a new one here($415) Gears are a good idea along with a t lok but you can probably get them installed for less than 500. Another good mod is to have an exhaust shop fabricate an exhaust for you with an offroad h-pipe and some chambered mufflers.(Your car will sound better then the v8)

With all this and possibly a tuner it will get you up to around 210 engine hp, your friends car has around 215 hp if its stock. Plus the v6 is lighter so you will have a greater power to weight ratio and with the addition of gears you will get in your powerband faster and will overall have a faster car. Don't street race, keep it on the track, just go to a drag strip.

It depends on if the guys gt is an auto. And if yours is a manual, and his is an auto it will be a lot easier for you to beat him.

You will still lose the race with those mods. You need cams if you want to win. |

the words of Carrol Shelby, with these mods you are also gaining torque but most people prefer to talk in terms of hp. The reason i suggested the mods i did was because a guy down at my local track has all this stuff on his car(btw his total cost was only 600) and has a better quarter mile time/speed then any stock pre-98 4.6L. What mods does your friend have on his car rcarney? A 100 shot of nos will also win u that race pretty fast.

Also cams are great but nos works better. And cams can cost over 1000 with all the parts, install and tune.

Cam, ported lower intake, power heads, windstar upper intake, gears and a posi, and you can beat alot of bolt-on 2v GTs if you are a good driver.

Cam and gears should put you right there with him. 4.10 for the win, or better yet, a 4.56 will really wake your car up.

I didn't see it was a 97. That should be really easy to beat, IF you are split port.

I fucking hate people like that. As a matter of fact, I walked a bolt on 3v pretty hard today. Guy was talking some serious shit about how I was wasting my money. Posted the kill in street101 if you want to see how it went down.
