It's because in Ford's infinate wisdom, they placed a AC condenser drip tube in an area where the water drips on the exhaust manifold. And the rest is history.

it would take a lot more than a little water to crack it. Its heat treated metal. It's make to take the temp. changes like that.

dudes right on....my '90 240sx had a bad lifter....clicked all day long...every now and then it would stop, but the only way to fix that is to put more oil in it then change the lifter.....but thats a costly deal. sorry dog you better fix that quick before you blow up the engine

hey, before i got my car. my dad test drove it and it was making a clicking sound, same thing the higher the rpm's the faster it clicked, the people we got it from sent it to a shop and it turned out to be a bent rod.

just playin you can run with a bad lifter for months as long as you use lube, depends on if its on the exhaust side or not though

That's what it takes. Anytime you take hot metal and quickly cool a small section you create a difference in temper, and that difference is a weakness in the metal for fatigue. You're talking about rolled tubing at 600-800* F and water dripping on it that's 50-40* F.

Yeah, i know how it works. But it would take a lot more than that. The metal is heat treated for that reason.
