First Post, First Question

Hey everybody I just bought a 01 v6 a few years back and it looks just like a cobra (i guess its the svt rims). I am determined to get my car's hp to that of a cobra of the same year or close to it or just alot more than it has now. My plan is nitrous, and after much research I can't really tell what is necessary to be upgraded or installed to run nitrous. So my first question is, without internal engine work, what do i need to run nitrous?

A cam and a tune. Or just a tune. But naaaazzzzz isn't that great. I would go with a cam and a ported lower, windstar, and a turbo on low boost. To run at the HP of a cobra, you have quite a few options. With a turbo, you could easily surpass a cobra.. At least an N/A cobra.

BTW. Welcome to MM

IMO id go Windstar, tuner, and a decent sized turbo and cam.
Should have you covered for a while.

cam, tune, windstar, ported lower intake, ported heads, gears, tlok, 8.8 rear end, udp (if you don't go supercharged), forged internals, turbo running 10 psi (ONLY if you forge your internals) and you should be beating a lot of cars but this will cost a good chunk of change. But it'd be a highly respectable v6 mustang lol.

Also for those who chime in, wouldnt all those mods I listed above put him at or more than the 03/04 stock cobra numbers?

If your goal with your car is over 300rwhp then you NEED to upgrade to a 8.8 rear end. Also about gears, if you have a manual transmission then get 3.73's if your an auto then 4.10's are your best bet. But I have seen some people with autos that go FI get 3.73's and I have seen some stick with 4.10's.

Oh yea and don't forget about all the suspension work you will need to get that power to the ground.

if you go FI, dont get 4.10s because it will go through the gears too fast.

How much money do you have to spend? You can't do anything if you can't afford it.

I have a good chunk of change right now to get things going ~$700 and I have about that much during each month to spend as well. The reason I was thinking nitrous was because of the lower price when compared to a supercharger or turbo. The 8.8 rear end sounds good but once I get that there is no turning back. Now that my budget is out there, how should I start this project?

O ya the current upgrades I have are an eBay CAI and flowmaster exhaust with an X pipe and a posi (not sure what brand), it is also lowerd.

I'm running a detroit locker inside a 7.5" housing, 373 gears. The stock axles are my weak point atm.

Had to completelly redo my entire suspension when I put a 3400stall in. Solid adjutable upper, poly lowers, adjustable shocks, front drag springs, and some 555r drag radials 275/40-17. The stall would flash at around 3800rpm when loading the converter, which would put me at 350rwtq.

The thing about nitrous is it gives huge increase in tq(instantlly), so be prepared to run a decent tire and at minimum some poly lower control arms.(that is if you want all the power to get to the ground)

btw..what trans??

Pics???? also, i have a question. If you do go turbo, wouldnt it be okay to get 4.10 gears to make up for the turbo not really kicking in until higher rpms. Or is it like a supercharger and you should get 3.73s?? sorry for the thread jack.

Put on you digital speedo, hit a certain speed, hit cruise, and switch to the TAC, and remember them. Compare them against this chart.

If the info is inconclusive, open the differential and look.
