Has anyone bought these fogs?

VMP Tuning - Buy Ford SCT & GM Custom Handheld Flash Tuners Performance Economy Towing: 01-04 CLEAR GT Foglight Kit

I was wondering if they work well. And also wondering if the switch they give you goes into the switch under my radio behind my shifter.

I read the instructions and was also confused as to it saying that the fogs came on by turning your parking lights on....? that would be pretty worthless if thats the only way to get them on.

The kit works great and it is an easy install. Not sure about the switch as i have a 2000, but i know if you don't want to run them with the parking lights on, you can wire into the convertible wiring harness so the fogs can run whenever the key is in the run/on position, there is instructions at the bottom of the install guide that tells you how to do it.

on the 01+ there is a switch next below the radio that is for fogs in the GT's...in the v6 its a blank dead switch. I want to be able to turn my fogs on and off with that.

its the far right switch in this pic

Hmm you could try rerouting the converitble harness to plug into the fog switch? Sorry for the lack of info, never done anything with an 01-up wiring wise.

Have you looked through the instructions...?

They have a section for wiring it like OEM(only on with parking lights and switch) and a section for wiring it independent of parking lights.

It includes the factory switch and connects to the factory fog light connector(for the most part).

You'll be able to turn them on and off with that switch, you just need to follow the instructions for wiring them independently of headlights.

I read the instructions but I was alittle confused....it kind of seemed like they would only turn on with the parking lights, and not the parking lights and the switch.
All I want is to use the switch to turn them on.

look at the bottom section of the instructions, on the last pg there is like 3/4 explaining how to wire it up independent of the parking lights.

Just make sure you follow the section labeled "Additional steps for wiring the fog lights independent of the headlights(additional parts required):" in their instructions and that's exactly how it will work.

Yeah. Idk why it says about the switch before that though. I think you can use the switch...the website even says it comes with the factory switch.
I think I might email VMP and ask them though.

edit:
so that means I have to pull up the center console...meh. lol.

You have to do a lot more than pull your center console..

The VMP kit doesn't utilize the pre-existing wiring in place from the switch to the FOGS so you have to run wire up under your dash, through your firewall, ect.

Are you an auto or a manual, and trust me the wiring through the firewall is super easy, and the wire taps right into the existing harness.

Auto. I'm not worried about getting the vents and shifter bezel off, I've done that before. But according to directions I have to pull the piece where the cupholders are off. I feel like that would be a bitch.

I guess I just expected someone to sell a kit that basically plugs into the factory switch in the dash and works like the GT's do. And I'd just have to run it from that harness to the fogs.

Well you can buy a switch, plug it into that connector and then go find the other end of the signal wire off of the factory switch connector and run that to your fog lights, that's what I did. Didn't involve taking interior apart or running anything through the firewall.

It's just not possible for a kit to work how you want since ford only provided half the wiring for fog lights. Besides, you're asking for fogs that work independent of the headlights which isn't the way GTs have it.

I always assumed that the GT's fogs were just turned on and off by the switch in the center console.
VMP's site says it includes an OEM switch.

Stangmods has this though

If I recall correctly the fogs are shut off when the high beams are on normally due to laws, ect.. which makes wiring them only to a switch a bit more difficult.

Both that kit and the VMP kit wire then pretty much the same as factory GT fogs. If you want them only switched then you just need to tap into another power wire like instructed in the VMP instructions.

It will use the factory switch either way, just buy them and you'll be fine.

so whats the point of the switch then?

You turn your headlights on, your fogs come on, correct?
Then you push the switch and can turn them off?
Is that how the GT fogs work? Anyone with a 01+ GT wanna chime in?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to figure out how the fogs are wired so I know what I can do with them when I put them in.

I believe..

If you turn your head lights on, and your fog light switch is on then your fogs come on. If you turn your brights on or turn your headlights off your fogs go off regardless of the position of the switch.

The switch only really controls your fogs on if your headlights are on low beam.

The way I wired mine, similar to VMPs independent section, my fogs are on whenever the switch is on and my ignition is on.

Gotcha. I'd rather have that, I can turn my fogs on whenever as long as the car is on.
I want to get HID fogs and headlights, but the whole I'm missing the fogs part makes putting hid fogs in alittle more difficult haha
I think its cheaper just to get a kit and then replace the lights with HID's

Just make sure you get some decent quality fogs if you're planning to put HIDs in.

The bulb is so close to both the lens and the reflector that cheap fogs can melt on you with HIDs, that's why I went with OEM foglights.
