Porting Update

I started porting two days ago and did some more today. I have worked around 4 hours on the lower intake. I am making good progess. Ok I have one question however. I have a pretty rough finish from my cutter. I know that you don't want a smooth finish because it slows the air. But how smooth is too smooth? And how rough is too rough?

you want as smooth as possible. If you leave any roughness it creates turbulent flow in the air which slows it down. When its really smooth it promotes laminar flow, which is faster and more stable.

What I have heard is you make the lower as smooth as you can, but with the heads, you want rough in some spots.

Ok well I will use a sanding stone bit and smooth it out. That should make it pretty smooth.

Use the stone to knock down the high spots. Then go through with like a 36 grit sanding roll about 3/4 diameter. Then hit it with a flapping paper aprox 60 grit medium speed. look for high spots and do it again. Then finish it with a 60 grit sanding roll slow to medium speed. Without going into great detail that should get a rookie headed in the right direction. I spent about 8 hours on one before I'm ready to polish.

I just try to keep it as even as possible all the way through. I am eye balling it.

And holy crap blue!!!!!!!!!! WOW mine looks like crap compared to yours

I have put about 5 hours into mine so far. I need to get a new air grinder because mine the end is bent I noticed so the bit trys to jump. Making it difficult to control.

Thanks for the gaskets. And I am going to have to buy some more bits lol. I need one of them flapper things. I got sanding rolls and those sanding stones like that.

Its not nessacarily even all the way through.( not sure what you mean) Sometimes you have to move a wall over or take a hump out or even redo a radius. Its also important to have a good entree from manifold to head with out a very sharp turn. That sometime requires a little reshaping.
